It used to have 2 $100 rebates.
see: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=225028
Now there are THREE (3) $100 rebates!
see: http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/Forum6/HTML/000840.html

I have already bought one about a week ago from Circuit City, but I am going to try and take it back, repurchase it, and get the 3 rebates!!
I have already confirmed from a friend that there are three rebates, with the two from Circuit City having 9/5 to 9/10 purchase dates.
Let me know if anyone gets this done with an opened box TiVo, without paying the hefty 15% restocking fee.

Enjoy!

Another forum states one rebate ENDED 9/4.. the other
STARTS 9/5.. so there is no overlapping.. they are just basically
extending the CC rebate a few more days..
cj
no way to get 2 cc rebates that way.

cejay,

Guess AGAIN!
The ones that print out at CC, BOTH are dated
Sept 5 - Sept. 10.
I don't care what the CC web site says.
I have a piece of paper in front of me that says otherwise!

I'll try and scan them in tonight...

Superob,

The SOny and the Philips are the ACTUAL SAME PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. There is ABSOLUTELY ZERO difference between them. I have seen them both taken apart. The only difference is the faceplate.

I just bought another Tivo at CC. Both CC rebates require copies of upc, while the third from Tivo requires the original UPC, the serial number of the unit, and activation of the service. However, if you go to the Tivo website, their rebate only requires the serial number, receipt copy, and service activation. So you don't really need a upc at all. Before you get any ideas, CC rebates are tied to the purchase. If the product is returned, I am sure you won't get the rebate. (Have not tried it though) As for the Tivo rebate, it requires activation and a unique serial number. In other words, if someone has bought and returned a unit, it may not qualify for the activation rebate because someone else may have already gotten that rebate. I also bought an open box Tivo from CC, but since it was a floor model I feel confident that I can get all the rebates. This is a cool deal considering that the Tivo is useful even without the service, and it is upgradeable with a another hard disk.

Yes it is useful without the service. But you won't be able to take advantage of the 3rd rebate without the service.

Still $99 for the unit without the service ain't too bad.

I have my reservations about this. Both the rebates from CC say "limit 1 per household". CC may reject the second rebate because of this. You never know with rebate houses.

For 20 buck phone rebates, a rejection is not a huge deal, but loosing $100 is pretty big.

Healey, you can get the third rebate by doing a minimum service of 2 months for $10 a month, then cancel. Of course, I already have one with service and am using my latest purchase to pause live tv and fast forward thru commercials while surfing in front of my computer. If you don't already have the service, you will become addicted so you might as well pay $200 up front for a lifetime subscription.

The_man, can I use those links posted and print out the info to send in, or do I need the originals?

From the fine print:
The origional rebate form must accompany your Circuit City sales reciept.
Sorry,
But I don't think a copy will work...
Bummer....

Thanks for the_tip, the_man!! When I went to my local CC the shelf price for the 14 hour TiVo was minus a penny!! They're not advertising it, but they're not hiding it either. Encinitas, CA was the place I shopped. Thanks again!

A few hours ago, I picked up a TiVo (go check yourself - the web site is unreliable - it said my local CC was out of stock, but there were plenty available at the store). Much to my delight, the printer spat out 3 rebates. The first two were for purchases between 9/5 and 9/10 for $100 each. Each required a "legible copy" of the receipt (!). The third rebate required an official copy of the receipt + UPC - the salesperson printed out another receipt for me to use.

Thanks soooooooo much for the pointer the_man. This is definately a HOTTTT deal!

I just picked up a TiVo... same three rebates.
Salesman was aware of this deal and wasn't surprised.

Branded,
"If you don't already have the service, you will become addicted so you might as well pay $200 up front for a lifetime subscription."

Question. Isn't the lifetime subscription for the life of the unit?
So if you are going to upgrade to a new unit in 20 months or less, it may be better to go month to month. imho

Just got a floor unit. The salesguy was surprised by the second AND the third rebates. He saw the second one and said "Oh, they must have extended the Circuit City rebate." On the third he was looking at it, and I just said "Same one? Well, I'll just figure it out later" So before he figured it out for himself, I was gone.

Actually....

I bought mine on 8/30/00...
So today....
I just went back to CC with my EMPTY BOX, told them about
the THREE rebates (with one of them being new), and said
that I just wanted to return this one, and then repurchase it.
The sales associate was a little confused, but did as I requested...
And, low and behold, the THREE NEW rebate forms printed out!
Now I have a TiVo purchased purchased today 9/7/00, and
the rebate forms to go with it.

Not a bad deal, indeed!

YOU The_Man! Thank you! I thought I had missed the $100 rebate. I just got back from CC in Burlington, Ma I got one of the last 6 left. When I was over at the Merchandise pick up desk I heard a yell from the sales guy "IT'S FREE?" He was on the phone with someone. He didn't bother to look at the 4 pieces of paper that he printed out for me. (3 rebate and 1 reciept). What GREAT DEAL. FREE TIVO Rules!!!!!
