FatBelly, you got a 30-hour Tivo for the price of a 14-hour Tivo ($300), you are still entitled to the $100 Tivo rebate with service activation, netting you a 30-hour Tivo for $200. I'd say keep it.

OTOH, if you plan to hack your Tivo, I'd say keep the 14-hour unit. Rebate it as best you can (to $0 or $100, whatever you can get). The new hard drives and bracket will run you about $275, but when you're done you'll have a 90+ hour Tivo for $275-375. (Of course, there's labor and skill involved, and you do void your warranty by doing this.)

It's your call.

Steve

I thought I read somewhere that you had to pay at least $250 for the unit to get the rebate, but have looked through all the rules and don't see that anywhere. Anyone have any info?
As for keeping it for $200 as opposed to getting the 14 hour for the price of tax. I think that's a bad deal. I could upgrade it to a 90 hour TiVo for that price or less with a 60GB hard drive.

FatBelly, we're almost talking in real-time here!

I got the 14-hour Tivo and I'm going to send in for every rebate I got a sheet for (Program #8100, #8246, and #8585). Getting both CC rebates may be a fight, though.

If you're prepared to hack your Tivo, and you want the rush of a hot deal, return the 30-hour model, send in all your rebate slips and hack away!

For those of you that bought a 14hour Philips TiVo in Florida in the last 30 days, how would you like about $120 tomarrow?
Go to BrandsMart website and print out page 4, take it to CC for their price guarantee. Ads price is $188.88 or something like that. CC has a 110% difference return. Your welcome and send some of that DoeRayMe moola to my paypal account. (Found this on the TiVo forum, so you should be sending it to the lady "TiVoDiva" in FL who let us in on this easy money). Oh and on my mistake/adventure with CC. Ended up taking the 30hour unit back for the 14hour one, and get this for my 40min. drive each way and being so honest the guy gives me $10 back for my trouble. I tell this manager that it's unacceptable and he doesn't care. I will send a letter to CC corp. office but I hope this hurts them alot more. They should keep their customers happy. Hope this breaks them... Actually, I'm not so honest... The 30 hour unit only had 1 $100 rebate and the unit was opened and wouldn't work anyway.

Nickel: Isn't your net cost still going to be the same? If you paid $300 and are getting $200 from CC back, and were planning to get a lifetime subscription ($200) and get another $100 rebate to make the total cost for a Tivo and lifetime service $100? Of course, this assumes you were going to get the lifetime service.

I'm surprised that this thread isn't hot with the news in Florida, there must have been purchasers in Fl. who could use $120+? Maybe, this needs its own thread titled $120 for those who purchased TiVo at Circuit City, FL. recently?

Hello?

McFly?

Has anyone in Florida done this??? I am about 6 hours away from Miami but I think I'm going to try it anyway.

Hey folks..someone is claiming on an auction site that the FCC stopped production of these recording devices until a copyright protection system is put in place. Has anyone heard of this?

It means one of two things if true.

The ones in existance will become hot property (like the Apex with the loophole)

or

they will become obsolete because TIVO goes out of business 🙂

I called TIVO 'cause I am always ready to corner the market ;-))) and the guy told me he hadn't heard anything about it. I gave him the information because if it false e-bay should take that auction off.

Hmm..I have not heard of it going down, but if it does, I am sitting on two 14hr units. I got one from CC for $299-$300 and http://www.tivo.com/giveaway/index.html. Now I wonder, can I sign up for the service on the free one and send in that serial number with the last $100 rebate? BANDITAENMASQUERADA, do you know?

Call TIVO and talk to them. They were very helpful with me. I had to call because I sold an open box model on fleabay and I wanted to make sure that it hadn't been activated. I don't rip people off and if it had been activated I was going to replace it with still in the box model. turns out Circuit City sold me a 30 hour instead of a 14 hour ...unless someone messed with the tags. They guy was asking me how much of a deal I got and I was telling him how I already won one..he was very helpful about all of it

Woah, just checked out Eb@y out of curiousity hoping to grab one of these units cheap, and w/o the rebate hassels. It's amazing how many people are selling these with 2 free months of service, and claiming they paid over $400 for it 🙂 I love capitalism

Any idea if there are any deals out there today (10-17-00) for a Tivo or Replay TV?

Thanks a lot,

Stout

Okay, I am interested in seeing the I got F&^%ed by CC. Join the class action law suit.

This same discussion happened before when a few got three rebate forms. I would not hold your breath for three rebates. Just the two.
