Well, they need to go for points. It sucks they are so close, but they need to have confidence they can put some points on the board when they need to.

edit: Announcers agreed also

That is an unfortunate injury. The guy was down and the Titan just dove headfirst into him. All he had to do was touch the guy. They should make a penalty for players on the ground that cannot go anywhere being speared. Replays show helmet to helmet.

He was trying to get up. This is the NFL not some touch football game.

Uh-huh. There are tons of rules protecting players in these situations.

Yet, you're the only one complaining about it. You think the commentators would have made a single comment about it if it wasn't a clean hit. Yes, the Titans should have slowed down to touch him, giving him an extra second to get off his knees and then he'd rumbled right pass them.

Well I may be, and in the future this may be addressed. Rules change all the time. I respect your opinion, but not your approach. I'll ignore you from now on.

If he was down and not trying to get up, it would be one thing BUT he was trying to get up.

If you don't like my approach, that's funny. Your comment in the Giants/Pats thread were much worse.

One of the reasons Tennessee will have problem scoring points is there KR game. Henry isn't that good, and Young is not a great passer. They may only score FGs the rest of the game.

edit: where is the SD pass rush in this game?

That play right there! Henry had been stopped on a run by several chargers, and the refs just blew the whistle. Perfect example of what I was talking about.

[sarcasm] but he was trying to move forward! They should let him get tackled, even if he gets injured[/sarcasm]

errr the play was blown dead because his forward momentum was stoped. there was no way he was going to earn more yardage.

the one you are having a hissy fit over the guy could have got up and ran.

and they opt for 3

It was the correct call. It would be STUPID to go for a TD/1st down. There was 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Still 25 minutes of football.

Hissy fit? Nah, just discussing football.

The Gates play was almost identical. In fact, he might have had less chance of making a play than Henry would have on the run. Henry was on his feet, and could have somehow miraculously spun out of it Barry Sanders style and made a play. In contrast, Gates was on the ground, and several Titans players were within a couple of yards with full running momentum. I am not a physicist, but it seems to me it would have been an impossibility for Gates to get up and run in that time frame. You saw the play, he didn't even get to his knees. Therefore, any contact would have caused him to be down by rule. I am not saying they shouldn't tackle him, but the DE speared him helmet to helmet when he was in a helpless position. And consequently, he was injured. What is the use of sustaining injury where there is close to zero percent chance of a player making a play? Just blow the whistle and move on.

Now I had a nice argument typed out, and the best you can come back with, I bet, is a non-analysis and a snazzy one liner !

they are not identical. thats the part you are not understanding. one the guys foreword mementom is stoped. the rules say to blow it dead.

When a guy is down on teh ground without being tackled foreword momentom is still possible. In the play not only did he get to his knees he was nearly to his feet (really watch it again). the Defenders were right to hit him. sure they could have just touched him but they DO NOT HAVE TO. Also if they hit him hard enough to jar the ball loose it can be called a fumble.

Ok I am sorry, but you lost credibility. I really wanted to have a good discussion on this. I watched the replay several times, and Gates never got to his knees. I am SURE of that, which is the main reason I wanted to discuss the play afterwards. If the Titan DE had simply put his pinky on him, he would have been down by contact because his knees and elbows where still on the ground. I suggest you go watch the play again, sir.
