Here is a review showing @ 7970 @ 1275/1885 -It's a nice improvement. But still don't think it's in Titan Territory.

It is 43% faster then 7970, are you saying that titan is way more faster then that compared to 7970? That performance advantage is right in line with a Titan. And what are we even comparing? A card that costs half as much. Even if it's withing 10% of a titan, titan still looks silly.

Titan is about 22% faster then 7970GE at 2560x1600 that's right in line with that OC, given that they tested it at a measly 1920x1200. If you can OC a card that costs half as much as another card and be within 10% of its performance, let alone matching it, it makes the more expensive card look silly. It's massively overpriced. If Titan also OCed by over 20% it would land in my computer.

I will agree it is massively overpriced, but there are people out there that don't care and want the best of the best. But this kinda of like comparing a Mustang with a blower VS. A Viper. It may put up a good fight - But it's still no Viper. Like Balla said, the Titan can overclock too and with a new bios - they Fly.

Stock for stock 7970 vs. Titan - No contest
7970 o/c vs. Titan stock = closing the gap

The thread if you want titan performance from AMD just overclock one 7970 you'll get within 10-15% and save 550-600$ how this discussion even started is beyond retarded.

Or overclock one 7950 and get within 20%ish and save 700...

From what I've seen Titan doesn't OC well, OC gives it about 10-12% more performance. Having a card that is maybe 20% faster for 2x times the price is not worth it to me. I don't know about the new BIOS though. IMHO it makes sense only in Tri-SLI, because such performance is unattainable any other way. The other thing to mention is that ASUS ROG is not really a contender now, because it can't be bought. It was a very appealing card. I tried to buy two for about 2 weeks to no avail. I also couldn't buy MSI lightnings boost. Those are the only cards that can match/come close to a stock Titan after OC.

I remember when the 7970s were released the Nvidia people were complaining about how it wasn't much faster than a 580. Now that the Titan is out the ATI people are complaining about how it isn't much faster than a 7970.

Most the flack came from the lack of a real performance increase, 7970 now is nothing like 7970 at release, plus AMD moved their price bar up considerably. The combination probably caused the backlash.

Even with the updated drivers and clock boosts for AMD, Titan is a $500 card and everything else is overpriced as well.
 
Titan sell like crazy despite $999 price. So Nvidia`s price model works just like it should although many people disagree with it.

I don't think anyone ever argued that Titan's price doesn't work well from a business perspective. I'm sure Nvidia is loving the current price structure. The argument was whether it worked well for consumers.
 
You can't both have the cake and eat it, unless you have a lot of money.

NV will keep their midrange reasonable. It's a revenue stream and they won't start jacking up prices because they need to keep sales coming in. The Titan, or even the 680, don't make up enough % of their sales so they can jack up the price, because those are items that only a certain percentage wants (and they will get them no matter what).

The question is if you are going to be satisfied with midrange performance.
