For those who will actually be playing the game and not just complaining about it on the internet, my new gamertag is: Khophace

I usually won't play until after 9pm eastern.

Do you really think that matters to him?

Probably not. I dislike EA as much as the next guy but some games might not have been possible without their funding or publishing rights. I just hope they don't wind up buying respawn entertainment and start churning out mediocre sequels like they have been known to do.

I've never understood brand hatred, the same as I don't understand brand loyalty.

If there's a product that you find value in, purchase it. Does it really matter what the name is on the box?

i can understand it in the sense that if the company has screwed you over before you don't want to give them any more of your money. and i'm sure that has happened for some people with EA such as the whole sim city debacle, and then battlefield 4.

but the majority of people hate on ea because it is the cool thing to do.

Yeah, I guess. But one schmuck not playing Titanfall isn't really going to affect anyone but him. He's missing out on the game, whereas EA isn't really missing his business. I'm guessing those people weren't planning on playing the game in the first place, no matter who the publisher is.

Agreed.

The thing is for me that EA has taken over rights to certain games and those games have gone down in quality. I couldn't say it was a direct result of EA taking over but there is a distinct drop in the quality of the games from that series or developer. However EA being as big as they are, they are probably one of the few publishers with the money to make certain games happen. People may not like that EA got Star Wars game rights but there is no doubt they have the money to do the franchise justice. Whether that money is put to good use and the games turn out good remains to be seen but I would rather see EA doing Star Wars than Bethesda or Activision for example simply due to the diversity of EA's developers.

^Star Wars is an interesting one though, because there have been so many crap games put out. EA can't possibly release something worse than Bombad Racing.

As far as Titanfall, I will be picking it up at some point. Sadly, it releases the same day as Dark Souls 2, which will occupy most of my time.

Oh sure, I get that the company that produces the game might be a red flag... But to outright dismiss it, is plain silly.

I mean, to miss out on a great game experience because some other game series didn't live up to expectations, just doesn't make sense.

I know this isn't what you are saying, cmd, but it's what I see sometimes on this message board.

For me, I gave up on EA once the Online Pass came out. Origin sealed the deal afterwards. I get that they are a business, but I don't care to buy from a company who makes its products an inconvenience for me. I wouldn't want to get a game used, then have to deal with the online purchasing of the game Online Pass on 360 to boot. Because of that, I haven't bought a retail EA game since 2008 (I bought NBA Jam on my phone with Bing Rewards money, as a "thank you" for eliminating the Online Pass).

Like, I'd consider Titanfall, but I don't feel like having to deal with an Origin account just for it. My opinion, this whole time, has been that I'd play Titanfall if it cam free with my next GPU purchase. MAYBE I'd get a used copy on 360 during the summer, or after I get The Bone.

The general problem has been that EA hasn't released anything that intrigued me in a long time. Crysis looked nice, but "look" is about where I stop caring. NFS has been mostly junk for the past 5+ years, though Rivals would intrigue me if I got a One. I don't care about Battlefield. There's just nothing EA's grabbing my attention with, except maybe Rivals and Titanfall. That I can say that with a straight face through 5+ years of releases says a lot about my opinion of their development teams.

Of course, Crysis and Dead Space are probably plenty fun for some, but I have enough trouble with finishing my games library as it is, so adding those 2 franchises to my backlog wouldn't do me any good, while it would get money into EA's pockets.

I don't have any brand loyalty, I just want to get my money's worth out of anything I buy. I currently have two (relatively) recently purchased games with the EA name on them; BF4 and Madden, which in my opinion, were not worth the money I paid for them, so, to me anyway, EA is a company that I don't trust.

The fact there will be losers like you with the game is only another reason not to buy it. You probably never go outside your bedroom so you probably don't care what I, or anybody else thinks anyway.

^what exactly was the problem with Madden? It is better than Madden 13 in every way imaginable. The engine is a lot better, it looks better, the AI is better.

Is online pass still a thing from EA or did they abandon it? Also in regard to origin, I've had very few issues with it. Actually I can't name one problem that can be traced to origin software as the culprit. It works the same as Steam for me.

I will say the new Dragon Age game looks great so far. Just hope it turns out as good as it appears now.

Heh, well said.

Feel free to add me too... Wingznut.

Added you and blurredvision just now. I still think the way you add people is a bit weird. You can follow anyone but they aren't really your friend until they follow you back. I'd rather a direct option to add as a friend vs following them.

If I don't have to work late anymore this week (I think we are caught up), I may be able to start playing this tomorrow. Otherwise I have to wait until the weekend. Will know tomorrow.

No, the Online Pass stuff is gone. As I mentioned, I bought NBA Jam shortly after they made the announcement, just because I was in a good mood about EA. However, they then rushed BF4 to market (resulting in bugs galore), and they apparently worked in a Titanfall exclusivity deal on consoles without Respawn's desire to have that happen. They're a business, but they're one I don't care for.

As for Origin, it's not about having software that's bad. It's about not wanting to have to have a bunch of accounts. I don't want to have a Steam account, a UPlay account, and an Origin account, just to play games on PC (regardless of whether I want to play them online or offline). EA and Ubisoft don't/can't do this with consoles, and it's one of the things that keeps me interested in console gaming--not having to put up with AS MUCH DRM garbage as on PC.

Origin might work just like Steam, but if that's the case, why does it need to exist? I guess they don't like giving Valve (a minor competitor) a cut for distribution, but it's not worth the inconvenience of creating another online account, setting it up, and using that software, just to play Titanfall (the only EA game I would want on PC).

Well, you got one thing right, the reason Origin exists is EA doesn't want to be tied to Steam and give any profits to a 3rd party distributor. They also don't have to be part of steam sales this way too, which in actuality create higher profits than you would expect by putting games on sale. The number of purchases more than makes up for the cut in price.

They have been known, much like Activision to participate in price fixing to some degree. CoD rarely goes on sale on Steam for example. Anyway it is what it is, and Titanfall is a big game for both EA and for MS because BF4 was kind of disastrous and it's one of the few games that cannot be found on a PS4 and used as leverage by showing how the game can be better on PS4 vs XB1. Exclusives can't be compared that way since they simply don't exist on the other console.

EA and Ubisoft do it to console players as well. If you've played any of their recent games on a console, you have an account with them. The PC side just makes you more aware.

Uplay exists on PS4, you can actually log in and redeem points from achievements to get weapons and such with Assassin's Creed 4.

It's existed on the 360 and PS3 as well. As has Origin. Uplay on consoles goes all the way back to ACII, I believe. Origin has existed in form or another since Mirror's Edge, maybe earlier.

Like I said, the PC side just makes you more aware that you have an account by making you log into their clients before you can play the game.

I was just pointing out that saying you can avoid those services on consoles is not completely true. They sign you up, link your Live/PSN account, and log you in every time.

I didn't know uplay was on PS3...I played AC2 and brotherhood/revelations on PS3 and didn't notice. Can't say about origin...haven't played an EA game on console since it's introduction.
