Tires. PITA.

Gotta get 4 new tires. 185-65-R14.

Looking at Hankook Optimo H727.

Sears wants somewhere around $385 including install. Tirerack wants like $292.78 with shipping included. Typical charges for wheel installs are $20-$30 per tire.

Sears is more likely to do a shitty job than a shop, or so I would think, but who knows.

Maybe just get different tires, idk. These seem to be the best tire for the category they're in.

I don't think there's any problem having it done at sears. My dad and I bought tires and had them mounted there plenty of times and never had a problem with them.

I recently had a mexican mom and pop shop patch and mount 2 tires for only $20.

Wal-mart is usually cheaper but if you have 18" tires the wal-mart near me can;t install them. I had to have sears do the tires on my Corvette but it cost a lot more. But they did a good job and did not damage my wheels.

Shipping for the P4s from treadepot is also like $85. It becomes less cost effective. They're more expensive on tirerack as well. They're number 2 in the category. Consumerreports rates them lower as well. (They don't do so great in some conditions)

Just looking for best price/performance ratio. The Hankooks seem to be about that. Also, they're reviewed as being somewhat quiet.

I got my last batch from eBay. Very cheap. Most shops make good money selling valve stems. Even Wal-mart charges like $2 for each one when you can get them for $.50 or less.

Ahh treadepot is on the east coast so that is why they work well for me.

But the Hankooks with rebate do seem to be the best way to go. Is there a wal-mart with an auto shop near you? I think it is like $10 a tire to install there in that size.
And of course get your own valve stems.

your looking for 14's most likely you have stock alloys or steel wheels.

walmart/sears cant really damage them enough for you to care. I would take use them for standard wheels but not anything nice.

any allseason tire should really do.

I had Hankook LRR tires on my Focus, and they were horrrrrrrrrrrrrible in anything but perfect conditions, they also didn't last very long at all. FWIW, I'd just go to Discount Tire or the like and see if they will pricematch with a different tire. I've got some cheap stuff on my car called Riken Raptor now, but they don't hydroplane, they grip pretty well, and they're not loud.

Sears vs shop, it depends on the person. Some shops will do a terrible job, some sears might do an outstanding job

I was looking at new tires for my Saturn SL (14" steel rims) and found very little selection in the 14" size. I picked up a set of Saturn OEM 15" aluminum rims from an uplevel Saturn for $80 on Craigslist and had a lot greater choice of tire. Just to give you another option to think about.

I was going to go with the P4s since the last two sets of tires on my car have been Pirelli P400s, but they aren't as good as I'd hoped. I compared the P4s against Yokohama Avid Envigors, and the Yokohama's were user rated better than the Pirelli's and Tire Rack's testing rated them better as well.

Yeah. I gotta dem shitty wheelz. I don't have custom wheels. Most custom thing about my wheels are the fact that I still have stock Honda hub caps. :awe:

I'll probably order the tires tonight off tirerack and then go to Wal-mart (2 miles away) and get them put on. I'll just get the valve stems at wal-mart. I don't know which kind to get. (Size, length, etc) When I do know, maybe I'll get my own? Ebay sellers seem to only sell quantities of 50 for $10 anyway... kinda not really needing 50 valve stems, you know? I replace my tires once every... long while... I might not even have the car in a few months.

Ordered the tires. $292. Rebate is $40. So.. It'll be around $300 altogether after rebates, after mounting and balancing, and all that jazz... Not bad. Could've been cheaper possibly, but I'm getting a well reviewed tire.

These tires better be amazing. They'll most likely be better than the Toyo tires I have right now.

I won't be getting "free rotations" but I can do it quicker at my home than Les Schwab can.

It's $15 a wheel to mount and balance though. :/

Also, I don't know if they'd even let us do it since my mother is the only one with a possible costco card. I don't have a Costco membership. :/ (I looked at the tires they listed online and they only had 3 for my cars size... All of which were not cheap nor that greatly reviewed)

Good lord, are those tires made of unicorn skin or something? For the Yokohama tires I just bought, after a price match and mail in rebate all four will cost me $250 (not mounted.) Man, tires are getting really expensive.

Also known as low rolling resistance.

Cheapest I found for my tires which are Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 P225/50R17 was 170.00 per tire from discount tire. Most places it's like I said 200. And they are the stock tires on the car from the factory. And to be honest they are great tires, not noisy, really good handling even in the winter time. Will definitely buy them when the time comes.
