This doesnt pertain to just console, PC has its fair share

this stems from a COD4 post i was reading..

there already releasing a new COD game..actually 2 of them.. now i just bought COD4 less than a year ago...
i dont know about you.. this happens all too often..

There are several games that are notorious for this...
The Sims Series
Test Drive Series
Hero's of might and magic series.. old corridor type game. had like 10+
Super mario...( i love mario...but there seriously killing his character)

we already know the various sports games that follow

any title by EA...which is damn near all sports.

if anyone can think of any others.

rather then spit out quantity, give us quality.

On the other hand, I think a lot of gamers hate the long waits between sequels for good series, because a 3 year development cycle is incompatible with my ADD.

the new COD game coming out isn't by the same devs and is not a true sequel to COD4. and COD4 came out 2 years after COD2 did (the game it's a true sequel to)

other than TDU which came out like 2 years ago we ahven't seen a TD game on next gen consoles.

and mario ... are you seirous? there has been like 3 mario games in the past 12 years.

i dunno, i don't agree at all other than the sports stuff, that that comes w/the genre and has been like that since day 1 of sports games.

personally i think the worst ones are the wrestling sequels and the tony hawk sequels because they always just got worse and worse. need for speed games are pretty bad too though.

All different genres, but you know that already. (or you're dumb)

Those are all far different games than 'Mario' titles, like Super Mario, Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and Mario Galaxy. The Paper Mario series is the closest to the true Mario series, but everything else is just character branding in different genres. Mario Kart is a kickass game featuring iconic Mario-game characters, etc etc.

The reason people like sequels is because they take a lot of the risk out of picking games. To use that ever-so-iconic example of Madden, when you buy Madden, you more or less know a baseline of what you're getting. When you buy some other football game, you have less of an idea of where it's going to be.

Personally, I have no problems with sequels. I like it when a story gets continued, and it's fun to keep using the same characters. Look at what happened in NWN2 when they _didn't_ continue the trend!

its not so much sequels... but alot of sequels, such as going COD4 to 5 with another totally different one on the way..

i remember the test drive series at least one a year or so..

The only near yearly game sequel I look forward to is the NFS series. I love racing car games and always look forward to them.

Wait, wait. I agree with you on everything but this. Games with Mario don't qualify as Super Mario games. Those games are released like maybe every 6 years. That's actually longer that I'd care to wait. 2 releases for every console is what I'd find acceptable.

Isn't it interesting that development of games takes longer and is more complex, but somehow they manage to crank out games faster than every before.

Why make a game with generic characters when you could use familiar characters?

Define "original." Was Forza "original" because it wasn't a sequel? No, it was just another game in the simulation racing genre. Was Gears of War "original"? It's just another shooter, but I believe it has some original elements that distinguish it. I'd say Super Mario Galaxy was one of the most original games of last year. But you can't look past the characters and see the game. What you think is originality is just window dressing.

If you think Super Mario Galaxy was unoriginal, you are crazy. It is a very innovative game.

People get attached to memorable characters. Why do you think that some TV series go on for years? Because they have characters that people like.

As long as Nintendo keeps making Zelda games fun, I will buy the games until the day I die.

LOL, the OP can't even make a sound argument.

The way he whines about this makes it seem like this trivial topic of "game sequels" really bothers him in real life...almost the point where he loses sleep over it.

I wouldn't mind a sequel to Ocarina of Time. Comeon Nintendo, give us what we want!!
