LOL! At least you are getting sequels.

Seems the ownership of the franchises I enjoy the most, trade hands at least a few times between sequels, which means cancelled and restarted and recancelled and rerestarted development cycles. Greedy publishers, and stupid franchise originators who sell their soul to the first big pockets to smile in their direction. At least those franchises that I really enjoy have been ported to the PC or even originated on the PC, and the hardcore gamer fan base generates free DLC to keep the original version(s) alive for several years (sometime up to 10 years) while waiting for the hope of a sequel.

LOL, the OP can't even make a sound argument.

The way he whines about this makes it seem like this trivial topic of "game sequels" really bothers him in real life...almost the point where he loses sleep over it.

not quite :) but if it makes u feel better thinking that. then think as u will. are u telling me u enjoy games with 8,9 sequels, would u consider expansion packs sequels?

If they're good games, yes! How does being a sequel make a game any worse?

And no, I don't consider expansion packs sequels.

And you know, if you type "you", highlight it and press ctrl+C, you can just press ctrl-V instead of typing "u". It's really easy.

I don't have a problem with sequels as long as they are fun and sometimes games are so good you just can't get enough of them.

We need original games but we also need to refine existing ideas...

The Sims also has expansions, NOT sequels, the sequels are very far in-between and have offered a lot of improvements to the core mechanics, The Sims1=>The Sims2 was a huge improvement and from what I've seen of it, The Sims2=>The Sims3 is also quite significant.

Sequels are great, they refine an existing gameplay idea and intellectual property to an even greater degree. If all games were original IPs and they would end after the first game is released then we would have missed on TONS of incredible games this generation.

It all really boils down to this: It doesn't matter if it's a sequel or if it's anything, as long as it's a good game, then what's the problem?

I wouldn't mind a sequel to Ocarina of Time. Comeon Nintendo, give us what we want!!

Majora's Mask?

and Twilight Princess.

I don't mind sequels as long as they're good. It's when they start pumping out games just to make money off it that it starts to suck. Tomb Raider is the first game that comes to mind. The first one was good the second ok and then almost everyone after that full of suck. They lost track of what made TR a good game and started stamping out sequels. I had a friend who was really into them and I remember almost every preview for the new games said something like they're going back to the roots of what made it fun and reinventing the series at the same time. Although I did hear that the new one isn't bad.

To many expansion packs ala the Sims would annoy me if I played it. They're not really sequels but still seems like a way to cash in on a successful brand.
