The Fridge is not for sale!

:hmm:

well, this one probably is:

😕 Why would you think either of those would build up bacteria?

My preference lies in the most basic refrigerators. An efficient compressor with heat transfer coils in the back. A top freezer box and lower cooler. Such a refrigerator with no additional options will last forever and do its intended job.

A water line to a fridge is a small but open and pressurized waterline. Should that line break or disconnect, it will cause slow but certain water damage.

Plastic water tubes will develop slimy bacteria with standing water. This bacteria develops in small amounts in the ice maker, water dispenser, and water filters. Copper tubing does not corrode and does not allow bacteria to develop.

The ice maker and water dispenser takes up space that I want to be used for cooling food.

Obviously my preferences are the minority, due to the lack of basic refrigerators on the market.

I just ordered a Samsung French Door fridge (freezer on the bottom) which just has an ice maker to replace my Whirlpool which has been slowly dying. A problem with plastic water lines is that the plastic become brittle and cracks (happened with my Whirlpool). Also look online and even ebay for fridges/major appliances since most places will ship and be much cheaper than buying in a box store.

We have an Amana 25 cu.ft side by side. It's about 16 years old and still works very well. I'm going to have to repair or replace the icemaker though...it's developed a small leak, turning the ice bucket into a solid block of ice.

Measure the area for the fridge carefully.

Measure all three dimensions to ensure that it fits side-to-side as well as height, plus front-to-back...If there is a wall next to the fridge, make sure the door will open fully without hitting that wall.

Yeah, my width is 35, and so far, i say 90% of the fridge I like, are 35 and 3/4 or 5/8

So I only have a few that I can pick... went to the store to look yesterday, I think I'm going to avoid the auto ice maker.. my pipes are on the other side, and I would need to run a new line for it.. too much work.. I can always buy it and not use it till I renovate the kitchen.

The only thing I dont like about ordering online is that some places do not do inside delivery.. did you bring it in yourself or it didn't come yet.. lmk where you ordered yours

Unless money is an problem buy one of the nicer ones with the BIG ice/water department.
Having the ice maker in the door is a great option too as it allows more fridge room. Just keep in mind that you have less space for ice with that option, but it may never become a problem until you have 3 kids and a wife or throw a big party and run out of ice.

LG probably has the best ice/water dispenser around right now. It is amazing how something like this will effect your enjoyment of the fridge.

The top one looks like the one I bought a year ago. It may be expensive, but for something that will last 10+ years it is worth it.

Ice and water dispensers are overrated and just something else that can break. I have a refrigerator to store food - I don't need a big chunk of it taken up by extraneous "features". If I want cold water, I'll use a water pitcher/Brita filter and ice can be made using ice trays.

Having a big party? Prepare ahead of time by making more ice or just buy a 5lb bag of ice.

I agree about the water part, but ice trays are for poor people.

Right. Not everyone is blessed with good water so shitty water makes for shitty ice cubes. I use filtered water to make my ghetto ice in a tray.

How do you get drinking water?

Buy it for $.34 a gallon at Walmart at the Hinkley & Schmidt machines. I take half a dozen gallon jugs with me when I go grocery shopping.

It's a lot cheaper than having them drop off the 5 gallon jugs at your door for a $1.50 or more a gallon.

How did you get a CO? Where is it legal to build a house without a source of potable water?

It's perfectly fine to to drink. It just doesn't taste good. It's no different than many municipal water supplies that have water that taste like crap. Filters only do so much. R/O is the best option but it's not appropriate for all situations eithers.

I'd take ice cubes with trace amounts of salt over ice cube trays any day of the week and twice on sundays.
