Tips for getting up in the morning?

My new job starts tomorrow at 7:30am. For the past few years my job didn't start till 9:30am, which was fine for me because I'm NOT a morning person at all. I would sleep till noon everyday if I could. I'm going to have to start getting up around 6:30am every morning.... :(

Anyone have any tips for getting up early? I'm going to start going to bed by 10:30pm every night, so I get 8hrs of sleep by the time I get up at 6:30am every morning. I normally goto the bed around 1-2am and get upat about 8:30, so it'll be a stretch to actually get 8hrs a day. :)

Any ideas for waking up for someone who isn't used to getting up in the early mornings? I say early, but I know lots of people get up must earlier than 6:30.... what do you do?

Joe

EDIT: I forgot to mention.... I can't have caffiene or sugar on my diet. That means, coffee or energy drink (pure sugar anyway) are out. :)

On a related subject, I've heard that if you sleep 10-12 hrs on weekends, that means you aren' getting enough sleep during the week. True?

i suggest riging a large tub of cold water above youre bed so that it dumps out on you when you want to get up. that always works for me ...

1)CNS stimulants (caffeine, coccaine, crack, meth)
2)Make an efficient morning routine so you can sleep in later.
3)Make sure you are following your circadian rhythm, this makes waking up soooo much easier.
4)Have your computer blast music to wake you up... who needs a stinking alarm beep.

Out of all of these... besides meth, following your circadian rhythm is going to be your best bet.

why not just set two alarms - one at 6:00 and one at 6:30?
the 6:00 will wake you up and you can take a 'power nap' (really helps) until the 6:30 one goes off.

always go to bed at your bedtime.
even on weekends.
if you follow a regular sleep pattern you will sleep better
i used to sleep in all the time, now i also have to get up at 6:30
i usually wake up just before my alarm goes off now.

Right now, I usually set my alarm to start around 30 minutes before I need to get up and I hit snooze 3 times. 30 minutes would probably be better than three 9 minute periods. :) I'll give it a try.

Alarm. Wake up early, run a mile. Take a shower, perferably cold. Pour some orange juice, mix in SPARK (obtained from a Fitness Professional). You should now be awake, and on your way to a productive (semi-productive) day.

Doesn't always work, after several months of this, I can now ignore the alarm and go back to sleep. Also, I tend to throw stuff at it from across the room to try and shut it off.

place a REALLY LOUD alarm clock away from bed so you have to get your ass up to shut it off...
then COLD SHOWER!!!

followed by a nice brew of COFFEE!

:) works for me ( I have a 7:50am CLASS :-( )

I'm usually in bed and asleep by 12 and wake up at 7:30. I've kept this routine, even on the weekends, and I'm never tired.

Do all the people who are having trouble getting up in the morning. You all need to read about circadian rhythms... I'd be willing to bet a lot that the reason why it's such an arduous task to get up in the morning is that you are trying to regain consciousness in a deep sleep cycle.

A large glass of Fresh orange juice with bits....chilled and a small chocolate/snack bar...get up as late as possible then get up as soon as the alarm goes off get dressed, eat and leave. Works for me when i get up at 7am and im normally awake by the time i get to work (3 min drive away) takes me about 2 minutes to be up and out the house.

I have class at 7:30 every morning but friday, and I have to be up at 5:30 every M, T, and W for ROTC. It sucks.

Masturbate in your bed right before you go to sleep at night. That should be enough motivation for you to wake up in the morning and take a shower. Two birds with one stone.

Sticking to a sleep pattern is key. Go to bed and get up at the same time, every day. Even on the weekends. You'll find that you'll want to fall asleep around 10:30 each night if you get in the habit. If you don't know what to do with your time in the mornings on the weekend, take up golf. If you get up at 6:30, you will be able to hit the tee-box by 7:30 no problem and you'll be home between 12 and 1 PM.

Hey buddy, I've had the same problem. Senior year in college I was used to waking up at 12, right before my 12:10 class. With nothing to do over the following summer, matters just got worse...went to bed at 8am, woke up at 3 in the afternoon. Now that I'm in grad school, I have to be up at 6 every morning.

My suggestion to you would be to get a really loud alarm clock, go to bed before 12, and ideally...have a friend call you for the first couple days until you get used to the routine. Drinking a lot of water before bed helps sometimes. Best of luck, and congrats on the job!

You sound like my roomate freshmen year:| He had 9 different alarms set ... he would get up and turn each one off. He even had 2 alarms he threw in his bed... just "in case" he didn't hear the other 2.

IT WAS SO ANNOYING:| As soon as something wakes me up, I am up for the day. I ended up stop sleeping in my room.

Only white people would do such stupid things.
