At least there's none of this 'he/she's a crappy tipper' & 'omg how much do i tip the turtle walker/fence flosser' crap here tho, we pay the stated price for the service, everyone is very happy, and the world keeps on turning...

I wish that's how it worked here too. I love when I go to a place and they tell you that they dont accept tips. That's how it should be. Just pay them a decent wage and drop the stupid tipping idea all together.

You don't tip the dingos for *not* stealing your babies? Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

I hate when there's a tipping cup on the counter, why should a doughnut cashier get a tip? Its all a scam!

Our waiters and waitresses are nicer to us here because they have an incentive to make us happy (getting a good tip).

So suck it.

are you old, or just cheap?

Tipping's great. Not tipping is fine too. It lets me know who I need to serve (bartender), and who I can let stand there for 20 minutes. :)

That's inane, and a customer service killer. They should be equally pleasant to all customers, and guess what, you can always try 'being nice and cheery' to them if you want to give them an incentive ;)

EDIT: & how do you know they are 'nicer'?

You aren't from the US? I never would have guessed based on the fact that you constantly throw out worthless information about Australia. Get a new gimmick please. It is getting tired.

Try that shed around here and be prepared to get your ass knocked out, dragged to the back room, quartered and put in the meat grinder.

Tipping was fine when it was a reasonable amount, not this ridiculous 20% figure.

Sorry, if you want more than $10 an hour (and that's being generous), try a job where you need more skills and education than being a waiter.

Agreed. I hate that tips are even a part of the system. I'm sure if the government would go ahead and step up, they could take over and fix things. The problem is that service industries don't want to pay their staff when there is no business. The tipping allows the service people to lose out when business overall is poor by sheer volume, but gives them a chance to get 1 or 2 big tippers to make up for the overall loss of volume..
