For delivery, I tip a minimum of $5 or 15%, whichever is higher. $1 is BS for any delivery. So is $2.50 on a delivery that's 10 minutes by freeway--and he may not have had the luxury of taking the freeway if he had other stops to make. (Because in the time it took to for him to get your cheap-ass 10%, he could be getting $5 tips from customers much closer, but he's pissed because he got stuck with your run. That delivery area to way too large, too, but unless the delivery guy also owns the restaurant, that's not his fault.)

I was talking about Chinese food, actually, but if you want to assume the driver was Chinese, that's your problem.

Edit to clarify, in NYC we often refer to "Chinese food" simply as "Chinese". Perhaps that's the origina of the confusion?
I'm not being sensitive, I was just poking fun at frequent responses in other threads ... substitute "chinese" for "black", etc.

But yes, it was the cause for confusion.

i think you need to check your batteries...

Smack! Sarcasm meter sometimes needs a little whack to start ticking again. :D

To those wondering, the guy asked "that's it?". Pretty obvious he was pissed.

What would you guys tip for a $7.25+$2 delivery charge order from a place that's about 5-7 min away? Suppose this is a Chinese place too.

Make a poll with dollar amounts from 1 to 20 to see what most people here would give in that situation (this is directed at the OP, not thlanx)

They should just end delivery tipping and set a delivery fee.

Do dliverers get paid less than minimum wage as waiters/waitresses do?

well, if that was the case, i would have taken the tip back and told him to wok his ass out.

What if the restaurant charged a $2 delivery fee? Should I still tip? Refer to my post above for details.

Considering how much it costs to operate a vehicle, yes.

I tip the pizza guy a buck for a $20+ pizza. They never complained and I didn't see anything funny in my pizza thereafter so I guess it was okay. :)

Delivery people are used to being stiffed. I try to give them 2 or 3 bucks and they always seem happy with that.

I agree.

Every time I get food delivered, I don't even ask "OK, how hard did he work to get to my door?" I ask "how much is it worth for me to be so lazy?"

$5 is pretty reasonable to me.
