With more and more companies charging a dollar to delivery I think the drivers need to hit up their employeer for a raise. I am not taking that dollar out of their tip, but I'm certianly not tipping more because of it. Actualy I'm considering not tipping delivery people at all because of it (from the places that charge).

I mean as the consumer, if I'm paying extra to have it delivered it's no different than carry out. The delivery person is just handing me the food. That's not a tippable service.

Yea, besides the fact they make it so you don't have to get off your ass, drive down to the place through traffic, wait in line for your food, and drive back.

But yea, its the same thing as carry out
Umm, I don't pay an extra dollar or sofor carry out. What is that extra charge for again? Oh, that's right, delivery. Doesn't that kinda includes driving it to me so I don't have to...?

Take away delivery (which I paid for with the delivery fee) and the service is no different than carry out. All they are doing is cooking the food and handing it to me. So why should I tip? I don't tip at any other carry out/dine in (w/o table service).

edit: The places charging delivery fees are the ones to blame, if they are charging for delivery, not the consumer.

Yeah, I wouldn't order from them again. A lot of sh!t can happen to your food along the way. You're in NYC and you only gave a 10% tip? It should have been 15% if everything came out properly. Hell, our office gave 10% tips for the delivery guy to ride the elevator up 6 floors.

I just do a straight 20% tip. Sucks being a delivery boy, had a temp job running around delivering 30 bouquet of flowers on valentines day, not a single tip.

I usually tip based on the convienence factor.

For a waiter/waitress in a restaurant, 15% seems fine to me, I could have walked to the damn counter and given the kitchen my order myself.

For a delivery guy - the whole reason I called them was because I didn't feel like getting in the car, sitting in traffic, finding a parking spot, etc, etc. I guess I usually tip in the neighborhood of $4-5 on a $15-25 order.

It's not like I'm cheap at restaurants, having had, between us, two siblings with much table-waiting experience. Meh, I'll lie low for a while and then order from them again (they have a dish I can't get anywhere else so skipping forever is not an option!).

I'm not gettin it. The total was $25...so how much did you tip him?
There's a Thai place 3 blocks from where I live and I order delivery pretty often. That's 1 avenue and 2 street blocks. If my order is $20, I usually give them $25.
There's also laundry where I tip anywhere from $3-$5 per laundry bag for the pickup and again for delivery. They're down the block and across the street.

You is a cheap ass.

I usually tip $5 for a $12-$14 pizza order. The higher tip always pays off. Everytime I order pizza, I get awesome service. I know one of the delivery drivers there, and they do keep track of the good tippers. Those people ALWAYS get their pizza first.

For your $25 order, I would have tipped around $7.50. $2.50 was way too low.

wow. you are the biggest moron i've encountered yet. 7.50 tip on a 25 dollar order? are you fvcking serious? you fvcking douche

edit: i may be pissed but i'm coming from a NYC mentality. if you tip 7.50 for a 25 dollar bill then you are a moron. maybe its different when you live outside the city.
I live in the Grand Rapids, MI area and it is amazing how many people say I am foolish. However, these are the people that are waiting an extra 20 minutes to eat and when they get their food, they have to reheat it. I get my food in about 15 minutes where I order from. That simple. I don't order $25 worth of food often, maybe once a year, but I typically tip about $7.50 based on how fast the food gets here. I think the worst I tipped was $5 on a $25 order because the guy made it to my place in 40 minutes when I was quoted 30. If they make it there on time or 5 minutes early, the tip goes up. :)

For a $15 pizza order, I usually tip about $5. A little excessive, but that extra couple bucks goes to a college student who is just trying to make ends meet. If they get me my food fast and hot, then I tip accordingly. The drivers know me by name and house number as well and they fight over who is going to come to my house. :)

When it comes to delivery, it is a cutthroat world out there. You can either be one of the morons and not tip jack. Then you can wait for your food, or you can tip a little heavy and get your food fast. It all comes down to getting your food hot and fast.

I hate to ask you what your tipping habits are. ;)

I hate it when counter help and cashiers at deli's, dounut shops, fast food, and ect... have those stupid tip jars out, I never give them anything. If you want more money get a better paying job. There is too much tipping here in the US, only people that are paid below minimum wage (waiter, bar tenders, stripers) who sole rely on tipping should be tipped.
