Tipping question

So I'm in charge of organizing a party for a class that I attend. I ordered sandwich trays from Jason's Deli. At the end of the ordering process, I was given the option of adding a tip to the total, which I had to pay in advance. The way I see it, since I've already paid online, the only thing a Jason's Deli employee has to do is 1) make the sandwiches (their job), then 2) hand me the bag of sandwiches when I pick them up in a few days (also their job). They don't have to ring up my order or anything.

So why in the world would I tip these guys? To ensure they smile at me when they hand me the bag? Or to bribe them to not jizz all over the sandwiches when they make them?
 
People have gotten retarded with tipping IMO.

Tipping should only be for service provided when dining in.

probably just a generic form then. just leave it blank and move on.

i've eaten at jason's deli many times and never once tipped anybody. i never tip at those places where you order, then they just come drop the food off at your table and take your number.

It's probably there more for people who get delivery. It probably shows up on any screen though. I might tip a dollar or two if its a lot to package up.
 
they actually just had a bit this on the news

all the new fangled apps or websites come up with tip options, some have pre determined amounts that you cant change, basically it guilts people into tipping and tipping more vs not having that come up

i actually tip less when i see receipts that have "recommended tip amounts" and it has like 18%, 21%, and 25%. i will automatically tip lower on principle.

That's the way I look at it as well. Essentially, if I pick it up, I don't tip unless it's a larger order (as you mentioned). I probably won't tip as high as I do when I'm being served (usually around 20-25%)

Tip if delivered.

No tip if picked up. I don't tip if I walk into a place to order something and walk out. No point in tipping when ordering for pick up, which is the same thing.

Not quite that simple

As it's prepaid employees know if they're getting tipped before they start making the sandwich and if stiffed might be a trifle testy. Do you want your food handlers to hate you in advance? That's the one benefit of tips, employees have a financial incentive to not spit in the food. Remove that, anything can happen.

Why does the quantity matter? If anything you should get a bigger discount. If I'm picking up, no tip. If there is a delivery charge, no tip.

If they are the kind of people that would spit in your food, I doubt a tip would change that. Just comes down to if they are in the mood to do something crappy. I've been in a kitchen and seen a cook or server do that and they weren't even in a bad mood.

i take it you've never been to jason's deli.

the people taking your orders don't see the receipt. they have no clue who tipped and who didnt.

and in general, the employees at jason's deli are very friendly.
