I think it is $5 or $10 a month. I don't think you can send a reply.

I've been thinking about getting this watch though I am concerned about the battery life (only 60 days).

Why would someone get this instead of a cell phone? I read somewhere that Timex is estimating the free year of service at $900. After the first year, will you pay $75 a month to have a pager on your wrist? My cell phone plan is $30 a month.

For what it's worth I just discovered that if you have a United Airlines Frequent Flyer account you can buy one of these from Skytel's Web Site for $99 and get 1,000 frequent flyer miles. If you ask ten different people what 1000 FF miles are worth you'll probably get ten different answers but I estimate miles to be worth about 1.6 cents each so 1,000 miles is worth about $16.

The service plan is $49.50 for 6 months after your first free year. $100 per year for unlimited messaging basically the Timex Internet Messenger Watch is free.

One nice thing, the watch sets itself with a pager signal called Flex Time. The watch will always have the "exact" correct time. The Skytel service is not neccessary for the "Flex" Time Feature to work.

people can contact you toll free which is pretty great (from payphones too) and you get a toll free voicemail account

I've got non-junk emails from my hotmail account forwarded and my POP account forwarded with a little shareware program, so I get email notifications (and the first couple hundred characters) as soon as I receive them. Great little device and cheap as heck.

I definitely recommend it.

Noticed the Battery only lasts 30days. I'd imagine it's not horribly expensive to replace, but, it's still an added expense since I don't think they have rechargeable watch batteries.

I can give a good overview of this watch, have been using one since it was first sold by Timex, over a year ago.

Prior to this watch I owned the Timex Datalink Beepwear Pro, which combined the Datalink organizer features with the Pager features. That watch had a few drawbacks: Ugly, attracted a lot of attention, coverage/reception not too great, I never used the organizer features as they were hard to navigate, and it had a removeable/convertable design, meaning the watchband broke within a year, also the buttons wore out quickly.

This version of the "pager watch" is definately the best so far (yes, even better than the Swatch watch pager).

First, it looks like a regular Ironman Timex, and performs like one. It has all the sport and time functions, has the modern indiglow features, including nightmode (which turns indiglow on for 10 secs or so when you hit a button), and is as durable as a regular Ironman.
Timex states the watch is water resistant, meaning the watch itself is waterproof but since it uses Zinc Air batteries (675's I think), the batteries dies when gotten wet. In actual useage however, I have worn the watch when working in the garden and washing car and dishes, and have not experienced any problems. This past weekend I even forgot it was in my pocket when I jumped into the hot tub. After 5 mins sitting right next to the hot waterjet, it still works perfectly, battery not affected at all. The battery compartment as easy to open, and has a little O-ring gasket that seems to keep the battery dry though just about anything.

I have 2-year old boy who loves to play with watches, and he was the death of my Beepwear, but has done no more than slightly scratch the crystal on this one.

Second: The reception is better than the Beepwear, I find I miss fewer pages now. It is also lighter and thinner than the old Beepwear. The battery life has been estimated at 30 days by Timex, but I find it lasts anywhere from 60-90 days and sometimes longer. I get about 2 pages per day and the "news" pages (3-4 per day), and I have used probably 10 batteries total since purchasing it in 2000.

In addition: the batteries are cheap, they are the same as the zinc-air hearing aid batteries, in fact you can use the regular hearing air batteries rather than the pager batteries, they are really the same. About $5-6 for 8 batteries.

The paging service works fine, and Skytel has great coverage. You can turn on nationwide paging as needed if you are travelling, and can add features like voicemail and operator-assisted text msgs to the regular service. I find the local paging (mid-atlantic) and nationwide both work well.

Flextime is great if you travel, it will synchronize itself in all US cities and many Canadian and European cities. Most major airports are covered by Skytel, and as you are landing, you'll find you watch will sychonize to the local time before the pilot even announces it on the intercom.

The price is quite reasonable, and i wish I was able to take advantage of the special! I paid something like $120 or so for the watch when it was first released, and $99 for 1 year airtime.

Overall this is the best convergence device so far, and it still makes people who are pecking away on their "internet-ready" cellphones jealous when they hear my watch beep and I get a text page on my wrist.

I will probably even keep this when I get my Hiptop, the next very cool convergence device. www.hiptop.com

This thing rocks!! It is a GREAT watch just as an auto-setting Ironman, but the Motorola pager makes it way cool!!! Ironman watches are $50+, this one was $90 and the service is free for the first year. Very nice!!!
