Great now the terrorist have learned they don't even need to make the bombs. They just need to make suspicious containers and leave them on sidewalks to get the desired effect.

The desired effect would be a high death toll wouldn't it?

^ yup the terrorists have won

I dunno - in what situation could a cooler have MISTAKENLY been left on the sidewalk? This better turn out to be something... if you know what I mean.

really can't blame them for being paranoid there guys...

There is something called "common sense", and something else called "over-reacting". Any other day some cop would have just opened it. Because its a few days after an amateur tried something fishy everyones on edge.

Don't people understand that once exposed, things rarely happen again the same way?

A bomb squad robot has completed its X-ray of the suspicious cooler left in Times Square, CNN's Susan Candiotti reported. But, the results were inconclusive.

"The robot was unable to determine if the cooler contained cake or pie which resulted in total system failure."

The desired effect is that the population is controlled by the terrorists "threat". It can be real or imagined consequences. It's the control that indicates who won.

The death toll doesn't matter. Its about making us afraid.

Obviously though, more people dead = more afraid. But getting some fear out of something so simple is pretty good.

Or it could have been a bunch of beers and the robot could not determine if the alcohol content is high enough to be classified as flammable. :p

Let's add the media to the over reactors.

I won't blame them for being on edge there. I bet there has been more uneasiness there since 9-11.

No, because it's not Bumblefvck, Omaha... this is the #1 target in the world. I'm sure any native NY'er on that street would've reported it as suspicious.

It's like the guy whose house got struck by lightning. For his next house he spends a ton on lightning rods and supressors and lightning never even gets close ever again.

Or it could be like one of those tall buildings where lighting is sure to strike all the time because it's a magnet for lightning strikes.

Nope
The desired effect of terrorism is fear.

A tiny bomb that kills nobody but contains some common radioactive element like americium will have a much more detrimental effect than one that kills 100 people.

People who are exposed to it will never feel safe. They will not know if the cancer they get 2 years later is from that bomb. No matter what experts tell them they will always be worried about what happened to them , creating fear. Every time they get a common cold they will wonder if it is related.

gotta wonder if the guy who left it there would have the balls to ask for it back at this point. :p
