I enjoy being the butt here. Seriously though, the paranoia and calling the bomb squad was a bit much. It cost the city how much? I don't think it was justified either.

Or it could be like one of those tall buildings where lighting is sure to strike all the time because it's a magnet for lightning strikes.

Then you can take care of it in a reasonable way! NY is not the #1 target for anything. Any real terror incident will not come close to NY any more. It's over with. The only real domestic terror incident in recent memory came out of Miami, and I suspect something on the west coast will carry more weight and be easier targets.

Hey just pointing out the flaw in your analogy... WTC was hit in 93, they failed to take it down... guess what, they hit it again on 9/11 and they succeeded. Granted there were years apart, that's not to say they wouldn't strike the same area again. If there's one thing about them, those fuckers don't give up.

I agree today was an over-reaction but that they wouldn't[try] to strike again on the same spot/area is absurd.

After a major scare, yes. Buildings were evacuated over white powder cleaning products in a bathroom which were suspected as anthrax.

New Yorkers are pussies then.

In my office, we have Anthrax scares and only that department is evacuated. The rest of the building is just told "oh btw, we evaced that department because of a suspicious white powdery substance that might be Anthrax. Don't worry about it, keep working"

And yes, I work in Soviet Russia.

And if the guy in his Pathfinder a few days ago actually made a successful bomb you would still be saying this?

What's to stop anyone from doing the same thing, crossing a bridge and stopping in front of a NYC building or crowded area?

Or would a car bomb not be considered a terror incident?

If I was a terrorist I'd be hitting other targets, but I'd also still hit NYC again. I would want Americans to think they aren't safe anywhere, so I'd do attacks all over the country. I'd also want Americans to think that no matter what they do, they still aren't so safe, so I'd hit NYC again.

That wasn't really a terror incident, and he never intended to make a successful bomb. Reference my tinfoil hat thread, or the other one that thought it was some gubmint wool.

Let me ask this way, what's to stop the next person from doing it? Last time I went across a NYC bridge there were no bomb-sniffing dogs.

The answer isn't to call in the bomb squad every time Penny from Accounting drops her lunch on the stoop.

so you're one of those who tell people what they're doing wrong but never how to do it right. Again, this is a prime terror target. You're saying fat chance they're doing it again... history proves otherwise. If they don't evacuate an area and a bomb actually goes off, how many people will ask why weren't people evacuated? Easy for you to call these things behind your computer though. Are you from Omaha? Err Kansas maybe?

A bomb squad robot has completed its X-ray of the suspicious cooler left in Times Square, CNN's Susan Candiotti reported. But, the results were inconclusive.
....

My god bob, their using our love of sandwiches and beer to kill us!
