Ornery is my hero. Got my first quote from him. ;)

Safety, 5 stars or not you can't tell me that a vehicle @ 4500+ Lbs won't destroy something 3000 or less.

Guzzling, well you've got us. My family has: 03 Yukon Denali ~22,000 miles on it, 03 Jeep Liberty Renegade ~8,000mi, 99 Ram QuadCab 4x4 ~78,000mi, 7x' Mercedes 380 SL ~driven once a month for about 5mins. As you can see we use a lot of gas.

Usefulness- Yukon is moms/family car. Use it for trips, grocery shopping, cruising around town, towing if need be. We have a large family(5 adult sized people) so this is the only one we can comfortably fit into. Jeep is one of my younger brothers'. Used for towing behind the motor home, hunting if need be. Ram, mine/dad's drive to work car. Used for towing, hauling limited stuff, hunting if need be. Its not totally useful since we had a bedcap installed. So we do use our SUVs for something.

So there you have it. Btw- Traffic in Atlanta is horrible, if there's a wreck prepare to be in one spot for about 5hrs. :disgust:

Do you have 3 boats that you tow all at once, while carrying two other families of 5 in your SUVs?

As our great president GWB put it the best, you are either with us or you are with the terrorists.
So if you are American, stop driving your SUVs or leave the country, we don't want a bunch of terrorist sympathizers over here! :p
Ok. Ban NASCAR racing first. Then ban any type of racing. Then ban driving (this will get rid of the SUV & cell phone haters' problems too!!). Then ban the heating of homes with oil. We can't support terrorists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a hoot! One of the Kennedys was spewing the same thing on Hannity & Colmes the other day. Sean asked him if the same standard could be applied to his use of a private jet? Duh! That shut him down... hard! :D

Why would we do that? Just because we have 5 cars doesn't mean we use them all at the same time.
Besides the Liberty isn't towing, its being towed. You know how only certain vehicles can be towed behind a motor-home with out a caddy.
Doesn't every member in your family have a car? For those who say, "Why don't you get a mini van?" We had one, its now our beach car.

Sometimes I get these weird invention ideas, and I have been carrying around an idea for a device that you would put on your car's roof that in case you got broadsided by an SUV, would make sure that you were not the only one to get killed, but it would also kill/injure the driver of the SUV and maybe the front passenger by going through their windshield. I think it would even the odds a little bit, and make SUV owners drive more carefully, because there would be severe consequences from reckless driving. It would be a passive device with possible other uses, so there would be no law stopping you from hauling it around on your roof. What would cause this item to do is thing is you being hit on the side by an SUV at a high rate of speed.
Not sure if there is a market for something like that, but there might be one day. ;)

LOL You'll be lucky to reach 50MPH during the majority of rush hour days in Atlanta My commute to work is 25 miles and it takes an hour!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you are running your car for at least 2 hours each day, hmmm, that's some serious pollution. Most people in bigger cities have to do the same thing though.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep....Atlanta has a lovely brown haze in the air on most summer days thanks to all our commuters. Something we didn't have 10 years ago before everyone and their cat decided to move here.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well then, their cat's should just use public transit shouldn't they?!

You kids should really quit griping. I lived in Atlanta off and on for most of my life. It used to be the best city in the world IMO. What really ruined it was the millions of people moving there to escape the dying Northeast, the rediculously cold climates, and the west coast congestion so they could bitch about the slow pace of the southern people. Along with them they brought the horrible traffic, the buy everything up and redevelop it attitude, and the escape the blacks and move the suburbs out to 70 miles from town attitudes.
We old timers used to be able to trout fish after work on the ol' Chatahooch, raft weekends, see a show (play or movie) and get into a restaurant on a Friday night without waiting like a lemming for two hours. No more.
Hell, they even cut down the trees (Atlanta used to be called "the city in the trees".)
I moved out to a smaller city 70 miles due south. It reminds me of Atlanta way back when, complete with the black/white difficulties and a growing feeling Atlanta will swallow us up.
SUVs are the norm here because people still do Little League, take a foursome for golf, travel with a large family, and do it all without some guilt proscribing adolescent adenoidal wannabe ruining our day with a rant about why we should be guilt ridden for our choices of (what) car to drive.
Jesus...

Yes, but one with an added benefit of crossbeams that under very high lateral G's break loose and proceed over the hood of the offending SUV through the windshield to provide instant justice.

No, instant justice is like I said before. Driving through a deluge or blizzard and seeing the throngs of flipped and wrecked SUVs on the side of the road. :)
