Time to settle the age old question: best ever, Elvis, The Beatles, or the Rolling Stones?

The Beatles

No band before or since has had as much influence on both society and music. They are the measuring-stick for success.

The Stones, OF COURSE !!!

The greatest rock and roll BAR band ever !

The Beatles ruined American Music and Elvis was just OK but Id take him over the Beatles any day.

Out of the three, it's The Beatles. Elvis was more of a phenomenon than an expert songwriter and the Stones just didn't have the experimentation and amazing growth of The Beatles.

<< I know of one thing that The Beatles did that Elvis NEVER did:

Write a song.
>>

ah...but would there have been a beatles...if there was not an Elvis.

Elvis all the way

As someone else already noted, Elvis wasn't noted for writing his own music. So he shouldn't even have a chance in this discussion.

I think it's important to note that both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones had a definite decline in quality at some point in their careers.

So I guess the pertinent question would be, which is the best ever? Beatles pre-1966, or Rolling Stones pre-1973? I strongly dislike anything after those years for both groups.

i have to go with the king baby! viva elvis! woot, maybe its just cause i'm from TN, but he was the king of rock and you can't deny that.

Pre-1966 Beatles? Oh my Lord. The Beatles are a great band because of albums like:

Rubber Soul
Revolver
Sgt. Pepper's Loney Hearts Club Band
The Beatles (White Album)
Abbey Road

It is insane to even try to have a discussion about which band is better if you throw out half of each band's catalogue.

My opinion is that the more acid they dropped, the worse their music became. Those albums you listed are the acid-induced songs.

Again, in my opinion, they sound more "experimental" than musical. Yellow submarine? Come on. Catchy, yes, but crap nevertheless.

Nothing wrong with that. Many fine pieces of music were created under the influence of mind-bending chemicals. The drugs may be illegal, but the music is sublime.

I agree with you, that there is nothing wrong with acid-induced songs. Jimi Hendrix is one of my all-time favorites.

It's just that in my opinion, the quality of Beatles songs noticeably declined the more they got into drugs.

The Beatles were not only the best rock band ever, but also the best pop band ever. Incredible really, the range of music they created, esp. considering the length of time they did it in. No other band has ever even come close. (btw I don't even like the Beatles all that much, but I still think they were "the best")

And Elvis was nothing more than an overrated lounge singer. I'll never believe the Beatles wouldn't have "happened" if it wasn't for Elvis.

And I agree with the Buddy Holly comment.

Far as I'm concerned, Elvis wins on account of "In the Ghetto" and particularly "Suspicious Minds." The Stones come in second for "Paint it Black," "Sympathy for the Devil," "you can't always get what you want." The Beatles have the best overall work, though.

This is just for enjoyment; for quality is a different argument and I'll say CCR takes all comers 🙂

My friend always tells me there's a third answer to the question "Are you a Stones fan or a Beatles fan?"

The reply: "I'm a Kinks fan."

😀

<< Had he lived, Buddy Holly would have been bigger. >>

Ditto with Jim Morrison.
Out of the three, it would be Rolling Stones and Beatles tied for first (I can't make up my mind 😛) with Elvis in a distant third
Better question would be something like Rolling Stones vs Pink Floyd vs The Doors vs Led Zeppelin 😀

well, i can't say who is the best, easily the beatles in overall music writing ability, but if i could only listen to one band for the rest of my life, out of the three i would pick the stones.
