America's decline into a banana Republic with kangaroo courts is going faster than I thought, though not by much

And at least Germany had the excuse of being in a massive depression with insane inflation. We are going to be the first country to vote in a dictatorship in the middle of prosperity.
Yeah, but the economic vibes that social media and the media have conveyed to me. What about the vibes?!

POTUS = KOTUS :oops:

Color me perplexed and sullen over this development.

Seriously, what can the remedy be? There are 6 conservative members on the SCOTUS. This is rotten.
The only solution is to replace at least 2 of them and reappeal this back up to a new court to have it thrown out. Likely won't happen before someone declared themself King.

Nixon is the only other winner in this, although 50 years too late.

His order to have the CIA infiltrate the DNC would have been entirely legal and not subject to any scrutiny under this court, and the watergate tapes would have been inadmissible as evidence under this ruling, and therefore would have never been ordered released by this Sub-Supreme Court. And Nixon would likely have stayed in office with the resulting limited scandal.

It's hard for me to see a path out of this that isn't pretty dark, I agree. As mentioned the real answer is most likely to ignore it.

Generally speaking I think that's Biden's best path forward in general now, to say that from this point forward he views SCOTUS opinions as advisory only.
But that won't do shit to protect us from the next guy or get Trump convicted.

You now have a court that follows the constitution, and it reverses the prior unconstitutional decisions as cases come up -- e.g. Trump's appeal that certain aspects of his conduct were official business, then the new Supreme Court can obliterate the prior decision.
Yup when the inevitable appeal happens, put it in front more sane Court and the judgement will change.

Sure, but nothing will outside of Biden seizing power or some sort of extra-constitutional action.
Yup, that's what is so dangerous about this ruling. The only way to prevent the US from becoming a dictatorship is to have someone act as a dictator.

They know Biden won't, but the next Republican will. They also know Biden would be punished severely for it at the ballot box, but a republican wouldn't be.

I think a Republican would be punished severely at the ballot box for brazenly committing lots of crimes while in office. The problem here is that once that happens the results at the ballot box won’t matter anymore.

This is probably right. The bigger question is what happens when the electorate loses all faith in the electoral process itself and the new king is doing wildly unpopular things? This is a position we've never been in before.

I’m not sure that will happen, as Trump doesn’t have any policy priorities outside of some racism and stealing and now he has no need for congressional approval.

My bet would be he just does some petty retribution, some crimes, and most people sit around ignoring it.

I'm not necessarily limiting this question to the 78 year old guy who can't stop wolfing down fast food. What the court did will outlive Trump.

Tomayto tomahto. Ballot box won't matter, but if it did, Republicans wouldn't flee the party as fast as Democrats would.

No surprise how Trump intends to use this lawlessness.
Military tribunals for civilians who do not bow to tyranny.
I repeat, Julius Caesar has crossed the Rubicon.

Trump Amplifies Calls to Jail Top Elected Officials, Invokes Military Tribunals

I think we have to appreciate how long it took after ruling for Trump to go full retard on the military tribunes and hanging of his political enemies.

Was it all of 5 minutes? And he is not even president... Yet.

Obama is so toast if Trump wins...
Baldwin is gonna straight up catch a bullet (imported gonna cream himself)
Pelosi is gonna get the hammer
Hunter is getting castrated and Marge is gonna have her first orgasm
Biden is getting put in a televised glass cage reality 24h show for everyone to watch his decline.
Unlimited blowjobs for Vlad.

Yup, at this point it's inevitable. Biden won't, Trump's probably too old and stupid to figure out how to leverage aside from 'arrest MSNBC', but there will be a would-be Hitler or Putin or some other tin pot dictator that's going to run with this ball all the way to the end zone.

Luckily for Obama he has enough wealth to get his family to get political asylum in another country. The average “liberal” government worker or member of Congress? Best be prepared for being locked in a camp or hung.

These strike me as by far the most outrageous actions (ominous threats) by a former president or presidential candidate in American history. Is America now The Night of the Living Dead? Are we going to be devoured by zombies? Vote blue blue blue!

I agree, I also think a republican president wouldn't care at all about the ballot box while at least the current crop of Democrats would.

I.e. Biden would care about the electoral ramifications but Trump wouldn't.

Trump certainly wouldn't be above a little quid pro quo.
