I usually buy from DiscountTireDirect via eBay - Bing cashback is at 8% right now, and they have free shipping. :)

You can try costco, while tirerack may have cheaper tires, it won't pay for the cost of mounting them which in some cases can be as much as the tires themselves.

Where are you getting $15 tires? Do tell.

Maybe that is why he has to run them at 55 PSI...

I'd be pretty fucking lucky if I could get my tires mounted at only $15, let alone $15 per tire.

fleabag, of course I'm taking mounting/balancing into account. And after reading some of your posts, would you please discontinue posting. Thanks.

I ordered some tires and called to set up my mounting/lifetime balance/lifetime rotation, $68+ tax. Sounds like you're not very lucky.

In my area, they usually charge $32 a tire. The only time I've been able to get them to mount for less than that is through quite a bit of haggling. I'm sure you'd consider that sort of haggling "normal" but there is nothing NORMAL about charging customers $32 per tire for dismount, mount and balancing unless you so happen to live in my area. I think anything more than $5 a tire is a ripoff but since I don't own the equipment, they call the shots!

Sears is 20/tire for mounting, lifetime balance/rotation and road hazard...thats their national price...

Sears and costco won't mount tires for you unless you purchased the tires from them, it's for liability reasons.

Then buy your tires from them as well with a price match from tirerack? It turns out to be the exact same price when you include shipping. If you arent a dick to the manager sometimes they waive the shipping add on too. Ive done it many many times. I got Falken ZE-912 in 205/55/R16 V rated for 66 bucks + mounting per wheel. Not bad at all.

32 bucks a tire? wtf?

even a dealer will usually mount and balance a set of tires for an hour labor or less, which is typically $80-100.

what are you looking for?

wet traction tires:
goodyear Assurance TripleTred -> AGGRESSIVE tread pattern. snow no problem. ==> do not get confused with goodyear Assurance confortTread

best bang for buck:
i actually liked goodyear integrity

costco:
michelin Primacy? MXV4 => good all around tire. 60k miles, good gas milage (according to consumer reports) i bought these for my Mazda3 a couple of weeks ago when costco had $70off

Michelin - Pilot® Exalto® A/S -> 45k miles. great wet traction. lousy gas milage (according to consumer reports)

costco no longer carries bf goodrich traction t/a's :(

I imagine Mazda 3 handles about the same as my Protege5, I used to run Toyo Proxes. I liked them a lot more than the shitty stock Dunlops.

loved the Toyo Proxes. they were oem for my Mazda3. great gas milage, great wet traction.
but it only lasted 40k miles. :(

and the only places that had them in stock was the dealership. ($$$)
:(

Picked up some Riken Raptors at Discount Tire a couple weeks ago and I'm very happy with them so far. They are ZR rated, they are made by Michelin, and they are inexpensive.

Really? They are pretty common in my neck of woods. They might run out of my size, but that is just supply issue.

Sold the Protege5 at 177k km. Now riding on a MB E350 4Matic. Still miss the not so econo econobox.

That is in san francisco and daly city, what about in the east bay? What site did you use? Also I don't think you could get those rates if you wanted to have them mount and dismount one tire now could you?

The reason one would use tire rack is because tire rack usually has a much larger selection of tires and a lot of places don't do price matching except maybe in labor.

I'm pretty sure those are per-tire rates, not per-tire-if-you-get-four-done rates.

Give me your ZIP code. "East Bay" means jack shit to those of us who live on the other side of the country.
