Eh, I wouldn't call you a troll. Maybe somebody that needs his own thread though.

I posted various configurations though. And one included various possible changes with a range of prices. So I don't agree with the previous criticisms.

It's hard to believe though when a poster says he's only decided on a CPU after 140 messages.

I think there was a learning curve in this thread that changed the desired system, along with the reality of current prices affecting a changing budget. Scope creep often takes time to pin down.

The learning curve wasn't only for the OP. I know that I was suggesting things outside the OP's budget without realizing it. Such as a Haswell Refresh CPU, 8GB of 1866 RAM, and a video card with a minimum of 2GB RAM with a 256 memory interface. It is possible that I unintentionally led the thread astray more than once.

I know this looks like a radical depature but since we all strayed away from the original budget...
GIGABYTE GV-R726XOC-1GD video card
$138 http://www.shoprbc.com/ca/shop/product_details.php?pid=105863
AMD FX 6300 3.5GHz CPU
$125 http://www.shoprbc.com/ca/shop/product_details.php?pid=96696
Antec Basiq VP-450 PSU
$43 http://www.shoprbc.com/ca/shop/product_details.php?pid=74601
Antec VSK-4000E-U3 case
$40 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_112&item_id=061841
Seagate 1TB HD
$58 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=15_1086_210_212&item_id=042240
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 mobo
$70 http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_1207_1205_335&item_id=052729
8GB RAM $80 would be (without counting optical drive and Windows)
$138 + $125 + $43 + $40 + $58 + $70 + $80 = $554

I did post a less expensive build idea. Fact is, a number of people here posted the same kinds of explanations here more than once. The OP could have re-read the messages or done more research.

EDIT: Case in point, the whole charade over whether Haswell refresh chips are compatible with 87 series chipsets.

Well, I'm definitely not a troll. Just someone wanting opinions and recommendations. I apologize to CoolPurpleFan if I hurt his feelings because I didn't go exactly with his build. It doesn't mean that I didn't value his opinion as I do remember thanking him and everyone else for their posts. I will take all posts from this topic and build my system from all feedback. Thanks again to everyone. Please lock and close this topic.

I hope you'll reconsider your wish to lock your thread. Most of us are pretty enthusiastic about PC hardware, and that enthusiasm can sometimes spillover into an inappropriate emotional response or a misperception. You should not take it personally! Most of us are genuinely interested in helping you succeed with your build.

A lot of rage and intolerance because I wanted to express my opinion. Whatever.

The way you conducted yourself in general gave the impression you weren't understanding any of the explanations here. And I'm talking about the totality of everyone giving input here.

The issue with trying to beat an old quad-core with a tight budget is it puts you in a situation where you could consider either a cheap Intel dual-core and an AMD. A cheap AMD build would give you an advantage for software/games that can take advantage of many cores. However, the real upgrade path in my opinion would be to choose an Intel CPU. However, even if someone were to choose a dual-core Intel CPU to be able to upgrade to an i5-4690 later, often people have said here they usually find they're forced to replace mobo/RAM/CPU when they want to upgrade. It's one of the reasons I was going in the direction of i5-4690 now, using the on-board graphics and re-using Windows 7 and waiting until Windows 9 and GeForce 800 series cards to have a much more powerful machine. And then adding an M2.PCIe SSD.

I understand the i3 may be able to beat an old quad-core. It just depends how someone wants to look at the whole picture. I never accused anyone of trolling. I said it looked like that.

You can't post sideways implications of trolling and then later claim that you never made any accusations. You're clearly being disruptive to this thread and need to cease posting in it immediately.

... But I've made up my mind on at least one thing and I'm not turning back now. And that is I want an I5. ...

I really don't understand why you are continuing to post in this thread. Are you even reading the OP's posts?

BTW fretman, we heard back from ZGR and he actually had a problem with his motherboard, and Asus is going to send him a replacement. So, as crashtech indicated, it is very likely a refresh chip will work on the older Haswell boards, if you find a deal.

Almost everyone agreed on a build way back on page 3 and it has basically been noise and circular discussion for the last 4 pages and nonsensical suggestions from coolpurplefan (non-window OS, builds 25% above OP's budget, builds that don't include items OP already settled on, etc...). We came up with an excellent build within budget pages ago. Either it meets his needs or it doesn't. I didn't see the OP specifically comment on what he didn't like with that build. So, unless the OP tells us what was wrong with that build, there is nothing else that can be offered at this point, and thread should be left to die.

It did get rather chaotic. I was hoping that participation moving forward would be a bit more orderly and the OP would settle on a final build before thread death.
