So on Sunday night, he quickly put together a homemade digital clock (“just something small,” as he casually put it to the Dallas Morning News: a circuit board and power supply connected to a digital display) and proudly offered it to his engineering teacher the next day.
So he showed it to his ENGINEERING teacher! who told him NOT to show other teachers. smart man. knows the other teachers are morons.
During English class, the clock beeped, annoying his teacher. When he brought the device up to her afterward, she told him “it looks like a bomb,” according to Mohamed.
oh..a English teacher blew it into the twilight zone..
Irving Police Officer James McLellan told the TV station that school officials were worried about the device.
“Clearly, there were disassembled clock parts in there, but he offered no more explanation than that,” McLellan said. “A lot of these details that the family and he have provided to you were not shared with us yesterday. He was very much less than forthcoming.”
Because he told you it was a FUCKING CLOCK he made. what else was he to say?
When the boy said "It is NOT a bomb" and/or it vaguely appears NOT to be a bomb. Maybe they should have asked that Engineering teacher or someone similar, to confirm it is a simple electronics hobbyist project.
Then all these issues, would have been stopped. He would have not been arrested, and everyone could have forgotten out it.
There are terrorists about. So it would seem to be quite reasonable/sensible for the occasional security check(s), to take place.
At the end of the day, he had brought in a potentially dangerous looking device. At least to some (technophobic) peoples, eyes.
I don't think that just because an item or items, on a person are searched/checked for being a security risk. E.g. At airports, while boarding a plane. Should mean that we have to massively play the race card.
If any item(s) is suspicious, we should be able to alert the authorities, regardless of the sex/race/religion/age/weight/height/social-class/standing/education-level of the individual(s) involved.
