I find it amazing that people feel that if you are wealthy you should automatically be more liberal with your money.
Feelings of entitlement due to jealousy of someone elses wealth? I think so.

if you dont want to tip then dont go out to a service industry where tips are typically well known to pay for waitresses.
Fortunatly the world isn't black and white. Just because you don't believe in something doesn't mean you should not be able to participate. See above post about feelings of entitlement. Tips are now a way for restaurant owners to underpay their servers and pass along the cost to consumers. Tips should be a way to show your gratuity for excellent service, and not a socially enforced status quo.

im jealous of my brother who makes $6.25 an hour, as a busser, and then gets his share of Tips, he is the only busser at the restraunt, he comes home with $30 after 4 hours of work, b4 his actual wage.
Are you a waiter?
Jealousy is a part of life, if his job is so great why don't you get one like his. I hear bussing is a GREAT career move.

hes 16 you dumbfvck.

makes over 100 a week working 12 hours a week.

That's crap. It is customary to tip, especially since everyone knows that tipping is how witers / waitresses make their money.

"customary" doesn't mean "manditory", does it? While I think he should have tipped, there is no law that says he has too (unless it's written by the restaurant that tips will automatically added).

It stinks, but he has that right.

So what exactly is the point of bringing your brother and his profession into this discussion?

Maybe if they did that, waiters wouldn't put crap in people's food. :|

The waitress complained to the owner, and the owner asked Tiger why he did not tip. to which he replied "I do not tip, i feel they should be paid a fair wage"

the owner tipped the waitress out of his pocket.

i find it bullshit that Tiger doesnt tip waiters/waitresses, you have more money than anyone basically, but dont tip? seriously just tip, damnit thats arrogant.

Tiger just went down a lot in my book when i heard that.

Another economics whiz. Fine, pay waiters and waitresses a better wage. Who foots the bill for it? Think it's coming out of the owners pocket? All they'd do is raise the prices and you'd wind up spending the same as tipping anyway, it just wouldn't be quite as obvious.

I like the current tipping system. The server has a HUGE impact on how good the dining experience is. The ones who excel should make more and those who go through the motions should get less. Unfortunately there are always going to be a$$holes who try to cover their own cheapness with excuses about restaurants paying a better wage. The system is what it is and when you sit down in a restaurant you damn well understand it. Failure to tip isn't a comment on the system, it's just a cheap idiot acting like a cheap idiot.

I used to pull in between $40 and $70 a night doing pizza delivery. The ones that didn't tip didn't piss us off. It was the ones that told you to keep the change which was usually only a nickel, or the ones that actually told us they couldn't afford to tip.

utopia vs real world. just %@# tip. its not gonna change, so deal with it. and that being said ...its the best system. places in europe where theres no tipping are notorious for horrible service.

Everybody knows waiters/waitresses count on the tips to survive.

Anybody saying the owners should pay needs to stick to Micky D's for their cuisine.

I call shens too ... although it is rumoured tiger is cheap, why would he stiff a waitress? Perhaps there were issues with the service, or the food, or perhaps, just maybe, this is another case of someone wanting to try to be important by slinging mud at a famous name.

You can't judge a person on a story told by a friend of a friend ... ever played the game telephone?

You never did? Your post was all about your brother and what he made as his job.

If I'm a dumbfvck and he's only 16, why are you jealous of him? He makes the equivalent of $8-$10 per hour. The waitresses share some tips because it's motivation for him to get the table clear/set again so they can seat another party of people to make money. It's a give and take relationship.

Though the point of your thread is about tiger woods, his personal beliefs on tipping and why you think he's a jackass.

Another economics whiz. Fine, pay waiters and waitresses a better wage. Who foots the bill for it? Think it's coming out of the owners pocket? All they'd do is raise the prices and you'd wind up spending the same as tipping anyway, it just wouldn't be quite as obvious.

True, though here in NY they only pay waitresses $4.35/hour if they may a minimum of $2.30/hour in tips. Meaning they must make at least the state minimum wage all together. There was a time when waitresses made the state minimum wage AND tips, and the price of food was right in line with market cost.
Restaurants are actually required to pay their servers minimum wage if they don't make at least $2.30/hour on tips. If the majority of restaurants were audited in this state I'm willing to bet many would not meet that criteria.
I'm also willing to bet that if restaurants were forced to pay their servers state minimum wage that the cost of your food would not rise dramatically. They are already accounting for this difference in wage rate if their servers do not meet the minimum tip requirements. On top of that, not a single waitress in the entire industry property declares their tips.

I like basically like the tipping system as it is, it does give me a choice if I want to tip or not, regardless of people who bitch about "waitresses depend on tips to live".
Bottom line is NO ONE is forcing these people to go into a food service profession. They know much of their income is based on tips and they also know that they will win some and lose some. Most deal with that and continue to stay in the business because the money is good.

Link for reference if you don't believe me.

A lot of people don't believe in tipping, but that doesn't make them a jackass.

DUDE Chinese restaurants ALWAYS charge you a 10% AUTOMATICALLy on to your bill.

I'm in England we don't have this 'tipping culture' as much as you guys in the states. Most places here pay pretty well for a waitering jobs.

Tipping here is optional.

Actually, Tiger does believe in tips but he also believes in decent wages. Tiger's caddy gets 5-10% of his winnings plus at last year's Doral, Tiger gave his caddy a Ford GT ($140k). Granted, some would argue he had an ulterior motive . . . the 7-figures he gets every year from Buick.

Tiger gives nice tips to his employees
