Personally, I think the story is BS.

1) If its true, the story would have broke out already.
Something like that, the media would have a field day with it and we haven't heard about it.

2) Usually, every restaurant include gratuity when dealing with big parties, so the tips are already included.
I used to wait tables and personally I have never seen restaurants that doesn't include tips for parties of 6-10.

bullshit my ass.

this comes straight from the owners mouth.

And yet here it looks like the owner stepped up and did the right thing. Kudos for that.

/me waits for Nik to come in and explain why you are all wrong and he and Tiger Woods are right.
Having never worked in food service, I can't say whether he's right one way or another, but I will say I do tip unless service is terrible.

The whole story sounds bogus.

1. No link to a legit news source
2. OP can't even name the establishment.
3. I can,t see the owner of a fine restuarant asking TW why he didn't tip

Marvin Harrison was the same way to my sister at a Diner she worked at, no tip.

Still, I have always thought Tiger was the biggest douche in the world. He's as cocky and arrogant as any pro football player but people still feel the need to praise him knowing this. And his caddy is almost as big a douche as he is, not quite though.

its well documented that Tiger Woods is cheap, if i could ask my father the name of the restraunt i would.

and why wouldnt an owner ask why? if TW had said that he didnt tip because the service and food was crap, then the owner would know why, but ANY high profile athlete if they dont tip you will probably want to know why they didnt tip because impressing them is important.

I'm glad something this trivial isn't in the news!

Good point

I thought that at first, but then I thought perhaps it was in the context of asking if there was anything wrong with the service he received. If I was a restaurant owner and somone left NO tip on a $600 bill, I'd be worried that they weren't happy and wouldn't come back.

I'm not so sure... yet. :)

A person can have personal beliefs and stick by them regardless of how much money they have.
I find it amazing that people feel that if you are wealthy you should automatically be more liberal with your money.
Feelings of entitlement due to jealousy of someone elses wealth? I think so.

if you dont want to tip then dont go out to a service industry where tips are typically well known to pay for waitresses.

I think as well that they should be paid a fair wage. Tips should be optional and bonus for a job well done.

That's why I asked how big the group was. If this was a nice restaurant and they had alcohol, I was thinking it was a group of maybe 6.

I used to be a server so I agree with the tipping system but before jumping on the bandwagon, I need a more credible source.

Fortunatly the world isn't black and white. Just because you don't believe in something doesn't mean you should not be able to participate. See above post about feelings of entitlement. Tips are now a way for restaurant owners to underpay their servers and pass along the cost to consumers. Tips should be a way to show your gratuity for excellent service, and not a socially enforced status quo.

im jealous of my brother who makes $6.25 an hour, as a busser, and then gets his share of Tips, he is the only busser at the restraunt, he comes home with $30 after 4 hours of work, b4 his actual wage.

Are you a waiter?
Jealousy is a part of life, if his job is so great why don't you get one like his. I hear bussing is a GREAT career move.

true story.

After a golf tournament at Akrons Firestone Country Club, Tiger Woods took a group of people out to Akrons nicest restraunt (i dont know name), the waitress bent over backwards to accomadate the group and made sure everything was perfect for them. after waitressing them for 3+ hours, tiger paid the $600+ bill and didnt tip the waitress any money. The waitress complained to the owner, and the owner asked Tiger why he did not tip. to which he replied "I do not tip, i feel they should be paid a fair wage"

the owner tipped the waitress out of his pocket.

i find it bullshit that Tiger doesnt tip waiters/waitresses, you have more money than anyone basically, but dont tip? seriously just tip, damnit thats arrogant.

Tiger just went down a lot in my book when i heard that.

While I don't agree with him not tipping her, I do agree with him about owners needing to pay waiters/waitresses fair wages rather than relying on tips.
