Personal unbased guess on how hockey originated.
Two Canadians sitting around:
"Hey Howard, you want to play some soccer, eh?"
"We can't. Damn field is covered in snow, you know?"
"Well the lake is froze solid. It'd make a good surface doncha know?"
"We could put on ice skates, eh?"
"You betcha. But then we can't kick the ball with skates on."
"True. We could hit the dern thing with a stick, eh?"
"That just might work. But a soccer ball is kinda big, you know?"
"What if we hit around this can of Copenhagen instead?"
"Good thinking! But a soccer net is awful big to hit that little tin into, eh?"
"We'll just make a smaller net, you betcha!"
"What if the goalie gets hit with that Copenhagen can? That would hurt, you know."
"Then he can wear a buncha padding an' a mask!"
