Golf has a much wider appeal throughout the U.S. You can find Golf courses all over the country and taking some clients out to play a few holes of Golf has a much greater appeal then suiting up and hitting the ice for MOST Americans.

Watching a sport on TV is different then playing it. Not everyone who loves watching hockey wants to play it, and as much as I like hitting a few rounds of golf in the summer time I'm not about to waste my time watching it. Unless I'm trying to fall asleep and then I'll just watch baseball instead.

I've never been a fan of soccer on ice with sticks. To each his own, I guess.

Personal unbased guess on how hockey originated.

Two Canadians sitting around:

"Hey Howard, you want to play some soccer, eh?"
"We can't. Damn field is covered in snow, you know?"
"Well the lake is froze solid. It'd make a good surface doncha know?"
"We could put on ice skates, eh?"
"You betcha. But then we can't kick the ball with skates on."
"True. We could hit the dern thing with a stick, eh?"
"That just might work. But a soccer ball is kinda big, you know?"
"What if we hit around this can of Copenhagen instead?"
"Good thinking! But a soccer net is awful big to hit that little tin into, eh?"
"We'll just make a smaller net, you betcha!"
"What if the goalie gets hit with that Copenhagen can? That would hurt, you know."
"Then he can wear a buncha padding an' a mask!"

I had always wondered how it started 😛

Yawn, the best <insert irrelevant boring sport here> player makes some remark about people no longer watching <insert other irrelevant boring sort here>. Nothing to see, move along.

hahah, it's quite funny & ironic that you say that, PokerGuy 😉

"ooh, what a flop! what a turn card! WHAT A RIVER CARD OMG"

*crowd goes wild*

Why did they ask a golfer about a hockey game?
Why did they ask a black guy about a hockey game? Hockey is one of the "whitest" sports.
Who cares what Tiger Woods has to say about hockey?

100 million? WTF are you nuts?

lol no kidding. But hey, maybe the masters can almost beat the record for the most watched television event in history.

wow I didnt know people have so much hate for hockey. It is about the only sport I enjoy watching

and watching golf is more fun than watching hockey? what?!

People get worked up over nothing. "No one really watches hockey anymore." OMG, HE HAS DISSED HOCKEY, LET US WRITE ARTICLES DECRYING THIS HORRIFIC INJUSTICE. At the end of the day, he made a quick dig at hockey and that was that. Anyone who reads what Tiger said as "Anyone who watches hockey is an idiot," which seems to be the reaction people are having, is going out of their way to be offended by an inoccuous offhand comment.

Jonks' link was spot on. These white people, eh? (<- International law requires the use of "eh?" at least once when discussing hockey)

I'm sick and fucking tired of the 'eh' stereotype. Everywhere I go in the US that is the first fucking thing anyone asks me and it is completely fucking retarded. I don't know a single person that says it and I've lived in Canada my entire life.

So stop propagating the 'eh' myth you goddam hosers!

The only hockey worth watching is the recap on sports center. Same goes for golf. Pot, meet kettle.

Even so, golf highlights on sports center are hardly what I define as entertaining. Given enough time, most people who plays golf will get a "highlight" shot where they get the ball close to the pin, or maybe even a hole in one!!11OMGWTF11!! Even Nascar has better highlights, but only because of the crashes. Even so, I can't stand Nascar either.

I put watching golf on par (haha) with watching poker tournaments and spelling bees.

My boss on college paint crew was from Alberta, and he would say "eh" occasionally. It was by no means as frequent as the stereotype makes it out to be, but he definitely threw a few in. One of his favorite sentences: "You'll want to feather that oot, eh?" (Yes, he pronounced "ou" as "oo").

Hahah! This thread is great. Hockey sucks, golf sucks, and I ain't watching either of them.

But!

A big fight between hockey dudes and golfers would be awesome. Golf carts with spiked tires careening down the ice, preppy white boys driving and swinging their drivers. Three hockey dudes at once body slamming the cart, overturning it and throwing the golf dudes flying willy-nilly. The hockey dudes pounding the shit out of them, but then another golf cart they didn't notice comes barreling in and takes them out. Golfers and hockey players using their clubs and hockey sticks like swords in a battle. Hella good entertainment.

Well the comments about Gretzky towards golf come easy. I'd like someone to point out a hockey player that doesn't play golf. The two go hand-in-hand.

Most golfers don't play hockey in the offseason.

That said, Tiger is an ambassador to golf and sport in general. He should be promoting everything, even if it's something he doesn't participate in.

I dont see the big deal behind this. So Tiger doesnt like hockey. Big deal. I guess the problem comes because he has gotten tons of support from the NHL and such, and he didnt give them their free advertisement in return.

I dont enjoy hockey that much either.

I'm sure he's far too wildly popular and successful to care whether or not he's ticked off hockey nation.
