Ticketmaster just raped me

and you're surprised why ... ? i'll drive an hour each way and buy my tickets at the venue to avoid ticketmaster. what a racket! like paul allen really needs a nother couple of billion ...

I'm surprised because it seems more ridiculous than the last time i bought tickets.
 
Ticketmaster was one of the firsts of the evil empires.

There used to be a time when you could only buy tickets at ticketmaster locations and the actual venue, most were in Hudson's and Harmony Houses (Detroit). The total locations at the time couldn't have amounted to more than maybe 50. You're the first person in line and have been standing in 15F weather for 3 hours. The chick behind counter says to you that the entire lower bowl of Cobo Hall (12,000 seats) have already sold out. WTF!! Of course, all the scalpers that paid off the ticketmaster tellers got them.

So you are saying that the convenience charge was cheaper (to you) than the inconvenience of traveling two hours away to pick them up? Sounds like you are saying that you got your monies worth.

I sure remember those days. You had to be one of the first 3 people in line to get floor. I actually spent all night (4p.m. till 10 a.m.) to get floor at RATM. Poor bastard behind me spent almost as long and got upper level. Pissed us off when they went to the "lottery" system.

But there are some fees that should just be included into the price of the ticket. I went to a UFC event in at the Mandalay Bay one time and my buddies and I walked up to the counter (it was before the Spike TV craze) and we paid with cash. The teller charged each of us a 12 dollar convenience fee. I was shocked, I couldn't beleive that the customer coming to the ticket booth, paying with cash, needed to also a pay a concenience fee.

I hate the companies that do this sort of thing. Feels like they are nickel and diming me. I would rather they just add $12 bucks and leave me to my bliss.

I just got an email for local shows and saw that there is a Beyonce concert in 2 weeks. I figured it would probably be nothing but the upper tier seats left yet, but was surprised to see row 10 seats still available.

Then I saw the price of $230 for 2 tickets and realized why so many tickets left.
 
The funniest part is the fees they charge for the different options you have.

If you choose to pick up the tickets at will call there's a $6.50 holding fee.
If you choose to pick up the tickets at another ticketmaster location there's a $6.50 transfer fee.
If you choose to have them mailed to you, there's a $6.50 handling fee + shipping.
If you choose to print them off at home using that ticketfast there's a $6.50 convenience fee.


Okay so this isn't exactly accurate I'm sure, but it's close.

Wow, how clever.

I remember in the 80's and 90's when companies were all switching to computerized transactions, they'd market the idea that it would save them money and therefore the saving would be passed onto you. Now, years later, the saving are not passed onto you. In fact, they're charging you for the added "convenience" of using a system which saves them money.
