When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength. Our country is right now perceived as weak...as being spit on by the rest of the world.

I still have a t-shirt I bought from a Chinese guy demonstrating right next to the World Trade Center a day or so after this happened. It's a rough print of the statue of Liberty super-imposed with a small pic of the dude blocking the tank.

Somehow I believe that if you lived in Hong Kong you would be a bit less enthused by the prospect of this sort of thing.

I clearly recall when this happened and it was pretty horrible.

Anyone who was cheering for the Chinese army back then was rooting for the bad guys.

And given that ... it's interesting the extreme irony (and ROTFL?) of Trump and his "people" (many of whom likely couldn't find China on a map) advocating for the tactics of the Chinese Government clamp-down .... good lord.

i worked with a couple guys who were at tiananmen. one got hurt pretty badly, and both decided it was time to leave after that.

It has however taken quite a bit longer then I expected.... I was pretty sure the $hit would hit the fan shortly after 1997. (year HK went back to China)
