Ok guys I purchased this card. Nothing is wrong with the card however I goto install it and nothing happens. I first tried the downloaded drivers the newest ones. It says that Im not using a NVIDIA based card. THis was after a clean format. Next I tried the CD drivers and I got the same message.

I ended up locating the drivers myself and doing a manual install. However I goto run 3d markSE and it says my card isnt a dirextx complient card. I have 8.1 installed. I do not get the best performance while playing games either.

My operating system is windows 98 the first edition
1900xp
2*40GB maxtor drives in raid 0
abit kr7a-133

Please help me out.

Try going into your DirectX diagnostics program ... I believe the file name is dxdiag.exe. Go to direct 3d and disable 3d acceleration.. reboot and then re-enable it. That should fix the directx compliance problem..

Did u install the Via4In1 after the complete reinstall? Seems to be an issue with that, maybe.

Best when reinstalling:
OS
Chipset (e.g. Via4in1)
graphics driver
sound driver (if necessary)
DirectX 8.1 (stay with it, although you could just use 8.0)
and then anything else you want.

Some people enjoy pain and suffering. 😉

How did you come to the conclusion above? You have a current mainboard, so I don't think there is a compatibility issue. The GF4's seem to have issues running with some of the older boards according to a few other threads I have come across.

[*]DX8.1 is fine
[*]Try the card on another computer if possible
[*]Uninstall all traces of old video card drivers
[*]Flash your mobo bios to the latest one
[*]Install the 28.32 reference detonator drivers

What happens now?

Yes, it's your motherboard. It has to be - because everybody knows VIA sucks and nVidia never makes a mistake!

😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛

(just kidding you guys!) 🙂

I'm going to try xp I didnt like it the first time so kept 98.

I did install the via 4in1 drivers however I installed them last usually I do that first. The other system is a 98 system also.

I dont think the card is broken do u guys?

Would flashing to latest bios help?

LOL 😀 That was going to be my response. 🙂

Seriously, I'd recommend a fresh OS install, the latest 4-in-1 set (plus patches), and the latest Detonators.

ya Im gonna get xp pro and try that out...

if not anyone RMA something to visiontek before? How long did it take?

Where did you get your video card at. If a local store, exchange. Are you sure the card in the box is a geforce4. I heard a guy bought one at a Best Buy and someone had pulled the old switcharoony and put a geforce1 in the box.

try a new OS first... even if it still does not fix your video card problem, you will be much happier in your newer OS most likely overall.. Windows 2000 recommended.. Windows XP is fine for most people....i however refuse to use it at home.. Win2K is the best MS OS available IMO.

I never did get my Gainward 4600 to work with Windows ME. Didn't matter how many clean installs I went through, the sucker just would not take any form of drivers for that card Nivdia or Gainward.

Hmmmm Have you tried the card in another PC?.. sounds faulty to me,you could always send it to me and I will test it in my VIA board which is 100% stable 😉 no guarantees you will get it back 😀

🙂.

lol no nothing wrong with the card it works flawlessly with XP.

<< so it could just be the OS >>

OK so you`re saying it works fine with WinXP but not with 98, is this in the same PC or a different one? If different PC try updating the BIOS.
