After a long series of hardware trading, I finally snagged a TI4200. Stuck with a Geforce 2 MX for years, this was a very good thing
One day my computer blacked out in windows randomly. It booted back up, but then blacked out again - this time for good. Wouldn't boot back up. I whipped out some extra computers and hardware, and swapped everything around, changing each component.
Turns out my power supply was fried (damn smell is still in the case), and so was my beloved Ti4200! I tested it in three different systems in disbelief. I removed the HSF and looked at the GPU - no sign of a bleeding chip or burnt smell. Then I gave the ram a sniff - same smell that the power supply eminated.
My question: does anyone have any ideas as to what might have happened? Was it as simple as a power surge when my power supply died, and zapping the card? I had five PCI cards also in place, all of which work fine. The motherboard, CPU, and RAM are all fine too. Is there any way to diagnose the problem with this card?
Wish there was a way to recussitate my PNY coaster
That's the last time I overload my power supply..
Thanks for your help
