TI-89 Titanium for $120 AR Circuit City

All indications are that it's an awesome, awesome calculator and it's still too new to find used ones (came out no more than two months ago). You probably won't find another one for less than $140 (I actually haven't seen less than $150).

In-store or on-line (free shipping). Offer ends 08/07/04

TI-89 Titanium @ Circuit City

Also, as stated below, Office Depot has them for $150. Throw in the $30 coupon code and you got the same price without the rebate hassle.

A few key calculator details:

Just like the Ti-89 original with some improvements. 3x the amount of Flash ROM, built-in USB (way overdue in my opinion) and a lot of pre-loaded apps including CellSheet (a spreadsheet program), polynomial root-finder and EE-Pro (Electrical Engineers rejoice!). Also has a stand and a snazzier look (although I've heard the 2nd functions are hard to read, being light blue on a grey background.

You could probably find a used ti-89 original for ~$90, but IMO this is well worth the extra money. EE Pro alone is a god-send.

😛 the 89 single-handedly got me through the AP Calc BC test with a 3 out of 5 (the minimum required for credit at most school) with only a few hours of studying. well worth the money!

I'd get one if I didn't already have an 89. I just don't think I can convince my parents to shell out for yet another one (heh, I actually lost one an 89 already, so I've bought 2 already).

Ya, it's probably not worth the upgrade from a Ti-89 orginal, but for engineering students (especially electrical), who currently have an 83 or 86, I'd say it's well worth it. Particularly when you get into upper level engineering classes where they allow calculators, you don't want to be doing all those integrals out by hand.

good find, if i didn't already have one, i would jump all over this. paid 125 (open box item) for my ti-89 regular (brand new item a couple years back) and am very glad i bought it. highly recommended for anybody who will be taking calc or higher. definitely worth the extra money for this calculator over an 86 or 83.

I have the original TI-89, bought in when I was a senior in high school. Absolutly the best calculator ever. This new one looks cool! If you use a calculator even semi-often this is the way to go. If nothing more, just for the display that you can see what you put in.

I had a TI-89 (before someone stole it, bastards) and it was the most kickass calculator I have ever used. I am gonna pick up the Titanium before school this fall. It shall prove useful.

This is kind of a so so deal. Office Depot has this for $120 after $30 coupon which makes it better. No rebates to deal with. So buying at CC and living in a state that charges taxes makes this deal so so, especially when having to deal with a rebate. Here's a copy and paste of the Office Depot deal (thanks to Durran on FW):
-----------------------------
List of features:

16 preloaded Graphing Calculator Software Applications (Apps), including EE*Pro®, CellSheet? & NoteFolio?
3x the Flash memory of the ti-89
Built-in USB port with cable
CD with operating manual
All of the features & functionality of the ti-89
Preloaded with Official AP Calculus exam review questions

I'm required to have a ti-89 as soon as school starts and this seems to be a good price for the new titanium version. Maybe some other members could find a place to pricematch for an even better deal.

ti-89 Titanium Graphing Calculator: $149.99 (Item number 503376)
Office Depot® Paper Clips Clips: $0.21 (Item number 429266)

Apply $30 off $150 coupon code: xxxxxxxx

The coupon can be found on the Internet, or better yet, go to FW and search for TI-89 and you shall find Durran's deal post.

Most places are out of stock on the internet, and if you in-store it or call they won't accept the coupon because it excludes tech.

Huh? The original TI-89 has plenty of built in statistics functions like regressions (linear, exp, quad, etc), mean, variance, median, etc. It doesn't have distributions, but I highly doubt it's any less than what the 83 has.

hmm, regardless of where i get it, as a senior engineering student, i think its about time i retired my 83 and picked up an 89 😛

Wish this one was out while I was still in college. I had an 89 and it was great for Stat, Physics, Calc, Engineering, etc. The built in USB port on the new one is a great idea, along with the stand.

I just picked up the 89 Titanium, and it is a heck of a different animal compared to the 83 Silver. Awesome calculator though.

the original 89's been selling for around 110 on various auction sites since I first got into college...

As mentioned above, this is well worth the extra bucks for a titanium over the regular (unless you already have the regular).

you know, you can download ee pro, cell sheet, etc at the tieducation site for free. i would definitely squeeze out the money for this calculator if i didnt already have the 89. the 89 is probably the handiest tool ever. if you're an engineer, you definitely need it.

There was a flash available that added a whole slew of stats stuff to the 89, which easily surpassed it over the 83. But you're right, before the flash, the 89 was quite crappy for stat purposes.

Too bad I most my math classes don't allow calcs 🙁

Paid more for the original back in high school (circa 1999). The old TI-89 is awesome, this new one sounds even better... don't let anyone tell you that HP is better either 😉
