Microsoft sends you a breaker so when your Xbox catches on fire you can't blame their faulty power supplies.

I'd send mine back too, but I already sliced the warranty sticker so I could fix the DRE myself.

Why are they doing this? Are they acknowledging the disc read error as a design flaw?
I am not sure, but the rep I talked to told me that my problem was covered under a "No Fee Offer" from their Consumer Services department.
Hard to believe that they are going to replace it, considering it is WELL out of warranty.
I know a lot of people bitch about companies and take shots, but I wanted to give Sony credit for taking responsibility for a known problem and taking care of their customers.

Do you think I still can call SONY eventhough I already open my PS2 and put modchip on it?
My PS2 just die recently 🙁
I think I bought it on 1999 or 2000.

I bought a PS2 on the launch date (October 26th, 2000).
Just this past week, I started getting the dreaded Disc Read Error when trying to play any game on a blue disc. DVDs and silver discs worked fine.
I called Sony's support and they are replacing my 4 1/2 year old unit for free! All I have to do is ship my PS2 to them and they will be sending me a replacement in 7-10 days.
All I can say is  to Sony.

I had my PS2 for 4 1/2 years. It endured a lot of use. The fact that a company is willing to replace it for me free of charge even though is is years out of warranty is a good thing.

Yours is an isolated incident related specifically to one product, their cash cow the PS2. Look up all the problems with Sony on AVS forum or Audioreview and you'll see people beg to differ. I would not paint Sony as the altruistic entity that you are because I have had the complete opposite response from their CS even though I bought a top of the line product from them that also had a design flaw.

The only Sony products I buy anymore are video game consoles.

I promised myself I would never buy a Sony product again even though I used to be an all-Sony house.
I broke my rule and bought a PSP last week. Sounds like they are having a lot of issues with the PSP too now. If my PSP goes bad, you will never see me buying Sony again. I'll probably go ballistic too.
My aunt works for Sony so we have a few of their products (couldn't resist the deals)... anyway, we've had good fortune with our 57" HDTV as well as a NS715p DVD player. I only got the C:13 error on the DVD player when I tried to make it play some CDRs/CDRWs (as VCDs). Never a problem with legit discs (plays DVDRs fine too) and never a problem with the tv in the 3 years we've owned it.Originally posted by: mugs

The next was my 12 month old $600 DVD player with the dreaded C:13:00 error.
I had one of those, died two months out of warranty. After I read how widespread the problem was, it'll take a heck of a lot of incentive to get me to buy another Sony product.
