Well, I would think that more cores would be better for that. The 2950x, whenever it comes out, will still be on the same socket and chipset I believe.
Hey guys, just got my taxes back and am seriously considering buying a 1950x specially because they are on sale right this minute. Right now i am using the system in my Sig for Video and Audio Editing and Encoding.Would it make sense to upgrade to more cores with the 1950x?? Would you buy now or wait till 2950x gets release and how soon will that be?? Also is there going to be new chipset and motherboards coming?? Thanks...

I wouldn't expect a 2950 until June or July.Hey guys, just got my taxes back and am seriously considering buying a 1950x specially because they are on sale right this minute. Tis True true true, I did in fact switch because of those reasons. I would think though that since it has been a year now, all those bugs should be all worked out. correct?? Oh and I wouldn't be parting with my current rig as it is going to be used as a gaming/media PC in the living room and the Threadripper will be put to the test as a work horse Video Editing/Encoder Machine among many other things. Mostly using Adobe Premiere and Kdenlive and some Handbrake.@Justinbaileyman
Didn't you switch from an Ryzen 1800X to a Coffee Lake system because of stability issues and bugs? I'd personally just stay with what you have for now if you currently don't have any problems. Like Markfw said, I don't think a Threadripper CPU will really help you for your stated use.

Oh I don't mind waiting at all. The original plan for today was to buy a new GPU upgrade but the prices are insane. for that kind of price I could build myself an entire new Threadripper build. I guess this money is just burning a hole in my pocket LOL.
I only saw one using the 7800x 6 core vs 1950x, and it won by 28% I thinkOk that is 2 people telling me I should just wait to see what Ryzen 2 offers so I guess I should just hold off then.
Anyone have Benches for Adobe Premiere and Handbrake using the i7 8700k vs the 1950x?? Just want to see what kind of gains I will be getting. Hoping to to cut my Encoding times in half and would even be happy with up to one third the time.

And here shows the 7800X losing to the 8700k in Adobe:
https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/a...ormance-Core-i7-8700K-i5-8600K-i3-8350K-1047/
So comparing the two different results, it looks like a Threadripper 1950X would give you roughly about 19% better performance in Premiere over your 8700k.
No I dont have anything like that by me. I would kill for something like that in our area!! If I could get it at that price I would come in way under budget.. You lucky son of a guns!!Are you near a Microcenter? Got my 1950X for $700 (routinely at $800) from there at the end of last year, as well as an open box ASUS Prime X399-A motherboard for $263.
Thanks for the heads up!! I took a look but its not really the motherboard I am looking for to bundle with the CPU. I am thinking for $1050.00 I still have room to be picky and choosy.Really wanting either the Gigabyte Gaming 7 or the TaiChi.@Justinbaileyman there is a TR mobo combo in the FS forum and it’s in your price range.
Yes I understand there will be some performance loss but 30%?? Holy moly, I thought it was only gonna be something like 5% or 6%. I still have the 1950x in my cart at newegg with code EMCPRPY63 I get $20 bucks off and $50 in Eggpoints from purchases over the years and $5 bucks left on a gift card brings it to $825.00 and I would still need a motherboard.Do you guys/gals have any coupon codes I could use to knock off a few more bucks so I could make this happen? Trying my darndess to get the Taichi Mobo. Was hoping to not go over $1000.00, but could stretch it to $1100.00 if need be.
Edit: Aww dont think its gonna happen, I just cant get the price under that $1100.00 mark. I'm still scouring the net for coupon codes but nothing is popping up. Been at it since 10:00..
Intel boxes..... AMD does not have this hit.30% performance loss with what? The 1950X is a beast. Let me know, I didn't see which app and I would like to investigate.
I thought he meant that Threadripper was 30% slower at something. It's pretty much the best CPU you can buy for under a grand IMO.Intel boxes..... AMD does not have this hit.
