THQ Humble Bundle

Charities get money, I get cheap games, and I can add them to Steam like I have with all the past bundles anyway....if that's breaking the spirit of the Humble Bundle, I'd like another please =)

But seriously, the co-founder of Humble Bundle has gone on record saying they're still going to be doing indie bundles in the future, they're basically in a phase to see what works -- hence, the eBook and music and Android bundles earlier this year.

The spirit of Humble Bundles should be more about raising large amounts of money for charity anyway. Doesn't matter one bit to me if I get indie games in return for my donation or AAA blockbusters. Considering over 426,000 bundles have been "sold" for $2.43m as of this post (on only the 2nd day!), I'd say there are plenty of people that are ok with this bundle being offered.

I didn't think anyone would have a problem with being offered. But what I have a problem with is that there are plenty of other places to get deals on generic 3rd person games (or whatever) for Steam. I liked that Humble bundle was a way I could get good quality, DRM free games for linux, which is much more limited in it's selection. That is all.

The only game in that bundle I'd consider "generic" is Red Faction Armageddon.

Are you saying Saints Row 3, Metro 2033, Darksiders, and Company of Heroes are generic? IMO, those aren't generic at all; far from it. Metro itself is one of the most unique, most atmospheric games I've played in a long time.

If you don't like this bundle don't buy it, it's as simple as that. It's not like they're going to stop offering indie bundles.

This really breaks the spirit of the Humble Bundles, which are traditionally multi-platform and DRM free.
Yes. But, I'm sure quite a few people are like me and fire up Steam when a new bundle is announced to see what games will be duplicated.

Why do you hate charities?

That's the thing. Hopefully not. I would be sad if HB turned into another storefront for EA, acti, etc so I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

I do? EFF/Red cross have websites. You can give them thousands of dollars any day you want, without humble bundle. I'm a bit confused. Unless you consider THQ a charity..?

Then relax, you're getting worked up for no reason:

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/11/humble-thq-bundle-threatens-to-ruin-the-brands-reputation/
"In a response to Ars, Humble Bundle co-founder John Graham assured users the company will "never stop creating Humble Indie Bundles... and the other bundle types we've successfully launched this year. But we’re also eager to see if our pay-what-you-want plus charity model meshes with critically acclaimed AAA content as well.""

Saint's Row 3 is packed with funness, so it would be to your benefit to abandon ideological purity and embrace story missions like "Trojan Whores".

Well I was obviously joking there however:

That's what you said, but this Humble Bundle helps get a bunch of money to the charity too, far more than would go there if the games were purchased at one of those other places; you seem to prefer these games be purchased elsewhere, ipso facto, you hate charities.:whiste:

😉

OK, think I got it:
So if I beat up old ladies, take their money and give it to charities, and you where to stop me beating up old ladies; ipso facto, you hate charities!
Isn't logic fun everyone! 😛

No no, that means you're an elderphile.

I think we have nothing to worry about until we see Humble Bundle Activision consisting of 6 Call of Duty games where the minimum "donation" suddenly is $60 because their crap they pass off as games never goes on sale.

Until then, I still don't understand how a big publisher participating in something awesome screams the end of the world because Linux happened...no, the 12 PC gamers on Linux aren't getting DRM free indie titles, but the 99% of PC gamers on Windows get AAA quality games for however much we want to pay to whatever cause, as long as it's $1.

Besides, if there are other places to get 6 AAA quality games for $6 (average), I must have missed a website somewhere...yeah Steam sales are good, but this bunch still would run you probably $30+ during a holiday/summer sale.

I had 3 of these, but went ahead and got it anyway. I do like this companies games, and it's a shame they are having issues. The Humble part really is a non issue, this is Humble helping them out....it does not equate to the future of Humble Bundles.

Just to point out how good this deal really is, if you were to buy all these games right now on Steam it would cost you 149.93, if you bought them at their very cheapest during the Autumn Steam Sale it would have still cost you 42.43.

Here are my numbers pulled from steam and KaOTiK's Steam Sale Thread:

Game - Sale - Regular
Darksiders - 4.99 - 19.99
Metro 2033 - 9.99 - 19.99
Red Faction Armageddon - 4.99 - 19.99
Company of Heroes - 2.49 - 9.99
Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts - 9.99 - 19.99
Company of Heroes Tales of Valor - 4.99 - 19.99
Saints Row The Third - 9.99 - 39.99
Totals - 42.43 - 149.93

I ended up picking up all the games even though I already have them. Attached them to my son's Steam account. Plus, I don't care what anyone says, I think most THQ games rock and I would hate to see them go under.

Picked up 6 all paid above default. 1 for me and 5 gifted to my friends.
THQ got 40%, charity 40%, HIB 20%, friends got free games, I got cheap games.
Now that's a win-win-win-win-win situation.
