And sugar... Thousand island is much sweeter than just mayo plus ketchup.

Do you also need bedsheet explanations?

I've made my own for several years, I think the store bought is too sweet and fat. I use yoghurt, mayo. ketchup, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, black pepper. Sometimes I add garlic or paprika.

I always make my own salad dressings, for the same reason I make my own TI dressing.

I like how OP only ever posts threads about irrelevant common knowledge that we've all figured out by the age of ~10, and acts as if he is revealing amazing secrets.

Next, he's going to tell us that this "Russian Dressing" or "Russian salad topping" is suspiciously similar to "Thousand Island!"

You mean French dressing + relish since French dressing is ketchup + mayo.

What is it over there?
Well it isn't really a thing but if someone said a salad with French dressing I'd assume that it was a salad with a simple vinaigrette dressing.

If you seved a salad with tomato ketchup and mayonnaise on it in a restaurant in France I could see you ending up wearing it tbh.

From here:

Mind blown

although the thought of mixing ketchup to mayo sounds disgusting. :flushed:

Have you ever been any place that serves "fry sauce?" That's generally just ketchup and mayo...some places add a bit of horseradish for extra "zing."

Dem Frenchies and bastard derivatives(looking at Quebec) can sure be creative with their starch and dressings. LIKE POUTINE.

Little-known restaurant secret: every awesome sauce you've had is just 1:1 sauce plus mayo. That awesomely thick Ranch dipping sauce for wings? Ranch + mayo. Blue cheese? Blue cheese + mayo. To take it to the next level, add MSG (MSG is just a type of salt, lots of misconceptions around it) & a squirt of acid (lemon or lime juice).

That explains why they all taste so bad (outside of things like BBQ, sweet and sour, etc).

Strange, over here basic vinaigrettes are called Italian or House.
