Thoughts on this foxbody

Well I found a roller. Body is a virgin 4 banger body that will be converted to the 8. Interior is completely shot. As in nothing is salvageable. Whole interior will be ripped out and replaced with interior out of my old car. Body is 100% straight. Never even a fender Bender. Its really easy to tell on these foxbodies. Car cost $350. My mechanic buddy is willing to do all the work which includes complete interior swap, motor, trans, rear end, suspension, replace driver window glass, repair bent exhaust by cutting out a section and replacing with a new section where it got crushed, and whatever we run into for $1700. It sounds like a deal for $1700 to me. Does that sound like a good deal on the labor? He said two Weeks and it'll be done.

$1700 sounds really good to me. I'd love to sit in and see how some of that stuff is installed, if he doesn't mind you could sit in and learn some things. With all that said, if you were ever going to have the car repainted from something other than white, now would be the time before the swap is performed.

I'd love to sit in as well. Unfortunately I work insane hours. I do plan on making stops in and taking pics and what not. I guess I'm stick with white then cause the wife would flip out.

I was thinking of ordering new carpet for the front and hatch since its all coming out and would be no extra work for him since he's doing it anyways. Does that sound like a good idea or could I do it later pretty easily when money isn't as tight? Or would it be a pita?

No. He was planning on a build for his wife and I guess he found an easier project so just got rid of this for dirt cheap to get it out of his hair.

I second doing the carpet now. Get some of that new car smell in there

(seriously, it'll be really easy to do now vs relative PITA later. If you don't do it now you probably never will.)

Which won't last long against the smell of rubber being destroyed :awe:

Progress has been slow. Much more work than first thought, waiting for parts/money, etc..
Well it's finally getting on it's way. Hoping for completion next week..

I'd love to have another fox coupe, but don't know if I'll ever have the room. I'm house shopping right now, if I manage to find a property that has a separate 2-4 car shop I'd almost certainly pick up another fox, but houses that have one are pretty few and far between and I doubt I'd shell out the dough to have one built on my own.

Well that was short lived.

What's the car worth to someone in its current state? Motor, trans, rear end still good. Air bag busted my face..

this made me lol abit. that body has no weight in the rear. and that makes for fun rwd lol. I had a 89 white foxbody for 3-4 years and it was always fun to see how easily you can break traction in the back.

seeing the remake makes me wanna go pick one up again lol heh such fun cars

Get some real tires on it this time. Nitto 555R 275s @ 30 psi should do the trick. Sticky drag tires out back, street tires up front, will tend toward understeer and be easier to control.

Running hard skinny all seasons on the rear of a front heavy RWD V8 car is bad news.
