I have a one week old hd running an (obviously) fresh install of WinXP. I got SP1 and everything was fine.
Yesterday I see the patch for a new threat and get that too. Today, I boot up and it takes seriosuly 3+ minutes to boot up (it stayed in the Win XP boot screen for so long I had to push restart). Before the boot screen came up, the white loading bar from 2k shows up. That's something you never see because it goes by so fast normally. I tried twice before going in to safe mode and uninstalled the patch with "SP2" in it.
I thought it was the newest one but apparently it didn't fix things. I still have horrible boot times and now I have to go through and start uninstalling each one.
This is what I get for actually updating my rig. I never once had OS issues on my old rig and I never once downloaded any patch.
Are there any known "fixes" that really f'ed the boot time? I seem to remember a few being named off but I can't remember off the top of my head.
Damn you microsoft! You make a product in which I'm almost forced to use!
