Those silly Muslims are at it again.

Man I love this religion. You get to stone people, rape women [and they get punished], blow shit up and now you can sin in bliss just by riding in a car. Where can I sign up?

http://www.greencarreports.com...-vehicles-may-be-a-sin

The opinion comes from Sheikh Mohamed al-Najimi, of the Islamic Jurisprudence Academy in Saudi Arabia. It is based on the part of Islamic law derived from a statement by the prophet in which dealing with alcohol in any form--including purchase, sale, transport, consumption, and manufacture--is strictly prohibited. The sheikh urged that the issue of ethanol-powered vehicles should be studied by Islamic religious scholars, and stressed that the statement was not a fatwa but simply his own opinion.

It's his own opinion. There are plenty of stupid opinions, enough for every man, woman and child on the planet to have a few.

And if your kindergarten teacher told you that "opinions can't be wrong", he or she is an idiot.

With the exception of the ethanol cars, all of those bad things are in Christianity too.

incorrect, the bible only says do not be drunk on wine... not that drinking itself is bad, only to excess. case in point, jesus hit up the wine from time to time.

Kinda stupid of him to equate ethanol (fuel) which is completely unconsumable with "something that can make you drunk" ("khamr", what is explicitly prohibited in the Quran, not "alcohol")

Wine was acceptable, especially because water sources weren't all exactly clean then. Even Paul told Timothy to drink a little wine, and not just water, for the sake of his health.

this..

I'm Muslim and own rubbing alcohol... i must be going to hell

lol. Wait, don't muslims get drunk sometimes? I swear I've seen guys from UAE swigging coronas at the apartments I stayed at in college. This must be one of those instances of cherry picking the holy writ to support a conclusion one wishes to be supported. How not surprising this is coming from a Saudi.

Haven't the healthy properties in wine been shown to come from the grape itself?

that's isopropyl alcohol 😉

Ah yes, and do you realize how many sheikhs/shaykhs there are? Likely some other shaykh has already issued a counter-opinion for this along the lines of reasoning mrSHEiK124 stated.

But for ATOT, apparently some random Wahabi shaykh represents all of Islam! Bravo!

Are muslims not allowed to use ethanol in lab research either then?

I always thought it was the consumption that was forbidden since it altered your menta status. Or something like that

Your common sense is not welcome.

As with all religions, there are plenty of people who break the rules. Happens everywhere.

Not the antiseptic properties. Alcohol killing bacteria is what I'm talking about. There were (and still are in 3rd world countries) a lot of bad and contaminated water sources.

That makes sense.

The most basic division in Islam is between Sunni and Shi'a.

Then just for Sunnis there are multiple schools of law, with the four main ones being:
Shafi'i
Hanbali
Maliki
Hanafi

Plus a bunch of other schools and lots of theological schools of thought. Saudi-supported Wahabi sect in this case.

Talking about Islam as a singular thing is just as ridiculous as if Jews are the same in behavior/dress and interpretations when you have a Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox Jew all in the same room.

Kinda stupid to be in a religion at all.

Why?

Let's play word association.

Saudi Arabia - Oil

Oil - Gasoline

Gasoline - Automobiles

Automobiles - Dependence on Oil

Hmmm, where could this be going? Sounds like the Sheik is concerned about his lifestyle and found some obscure meaning in a writing to support his concern.

*looks at 90% isopropyl used for cleaning CPUs, heatsinks, and wounds*

Guess I'm going to hell too
I bought it, drove it home, and use it.

Just like Jews who don't adhere to Halacha, no different.

Interesting. :cookie:

No sarcasm though, I actually didn't consider that.
