The Republican Party lying, eh? I suppose you know every single one of them personally in order to make that determination, yes? I'm also guessing you know every Democrat out there, and have never heard them tell lies (I guess you missed the presidential debates)?

Face it, almost ALL politicians either lie or distort the truth to get what they want. If you think it's only Replubicans throwing out the BS, you need to wake up from your dream. Granted, the Democrats push more social programs and such, but ask yourself why. Is it because they really care about those in poverty? Some of them probably do, yes, for others - they simply realize they need to appeal to their voting bloc. By expanding social programs they also expand the bureaucracy, creating more and more allies in the government.

But whatever, it's so obvious the prejudice is dug deep into your soul I won't change your mind and no one else will either. That's fine, you have every right to your opinion, no matter how blind it may be.

Realize this, however, I'm not a big fan of many Republicans, but I certainly don't see the Democrats as our saviors.

<>The only hope is that this group of self righteous fools<>

looks like plenty of self rightheous fools running around here. more lying democrat crap. damn it stinks !!

fsckdckboy -- I don't know which is greater, your ignorance of the facts, or the stupidity of your vapid name calling response.

First, we California residents were sold out by our politicians who bought into the power companies' great deregulation scheme. We didn't have dick to say about it.. When they got their way, they turned around and stuck it to us. This isn't the first time politicians have sold out their consituancies, and it won't be the last. :|

Second, the last thing you morons want is to let the California economy fall. Regardless of who is at fault, we produce about 15% of the National income. If you want to let us fall off into the ocean, I hope you have your own lifeboats handy, because you'll be following right after we go. We can deal with the bad guys, later. Right now, we (nationally) have a problem that needs some serious attention.

Third, there are some situations where society is best served by a single entity regulated for the common good. We all have exactly one connection to a power service. We don't have a choice of whose wires bring the power into our houses. In this case, one regulated source is argueably a better, more efficient, more effective solution. You can take your free market and shove it!

Clueless Eye --

<< Meddling by environmentalists is a large reason for the problem in the first place. What do you want Bush to do? Wave his hand and create capacity that was prevented by the tree huggers?

Here's a dollar, please buy a clue. >>

A dollar wouldn't buy you or fearless fsckdck enough clues to get a handle on reality. :Q

<< You can take your free market and shove it! >>

...and certain racist members of this fine board wonder why I keep referring to themselves and those of their ilk as commies.

LOL, thanks for proving me right Harvey!!!

😀

Actually, I'm kind of excited by this development.

Yes, I am terribly sorry to see it... But California is a big, powerful state, and if it suffers terribly because of this (and it will) then maybe this won't happen again in other states. Maybe we will actually learn something from this and REAL changes will be made.

I doubt it, but I still hope.

Oh, BTW.... Jeb says he doesn't want oil drilling off of FL! There was a big article about it in my newspaper today. He'll be a hero in FL if he keeps our environment safe from the drillers... and if he wants to be re-elected, he had better listen to the people and our concerns. Apparently, Dubya doesn't agree, so it's brother against brother in a political power play!

Woooo hooooo!

The battle has just begun. 🙂

<< Cornball comes from Detroit Classy. If you want to see one rotten city just look there. I'd rather deal with rolling Blackouts than live in such a crime infested rathole like that place. Hell Detroit make Newark look good >>

Hey Red, crazy as it might seem, I totally agree with you there. Crazy thing is Detroit was once a proud and beautiful city--that is until the Demoncrat Commies took over the joint--and one racist commie in particular, Coleman Young, pretty much ran all the white folk outta town. Now Detroit rots while the burbs flourish.

One thing is sure Red, I used to live in Cali, Petaluma to be exact, and while it was nice, as soon as I could get a transfer back to Michigan I jumped.

Oh yeah, btw it wasn't Lake Michigan that had it's pollution problems(as usual you almost have your facts right), it was Lake Erie. Blame that on Cleveland--at least you can eat the fish now.

Corn -- Racist ??? Commie ???

HUH??? Are you referring to me? If so, you really don't know squat!

If any point has been proven, perhaps it is your post that has proven mine. 😛

No Harvey, I wasn't referring to you with the "racist" tag--that honor belongs to Classless.

Commie on the other hand.......

i was just thinking how appropiate red's name was -

(hint for those of you in palm beach- RED CHINA)

anyway i think that those who might call themselves the compassionate ones here are really searching for power in all of this-

(ie. liberals?)

speaking of lying, did anyone see the end of the senate labor committee's interview of Ms. Chao? its amazing how little members of the labor committee know about the labor market. either they were lying or they are ignorant. so much for the theory that time spent on a committee will increase the knowledge level of the politicians. they should all be forced to take an economics class. i think a few members of this board should too.

Oh Red, you and I both know Bush will come around and fix Californias problem, if California doesn't fix their problem in two weeks. There are many causes of this problem, botched deregulation, idiot politicians on both sides, no new power plants in a decade, growing population on top of it all. However theres only so much the federal goverenment can do, after all one of California's power companies already defaulted on their loans. Californias legislature needs to work alot of this crap out.

Oh wow Cornball is so tough. I am a racist commie 🙂!!!! Coming from clown like you Corny I ain't surprised. Is your Confederate Flag flying high? To me Cornball you are just a weak little man.

<<Typical Cockroach. Your preference is to be with your own.>>

<<I must say, there is nothing that makes me so proud to be an American than when someone from another state>> refers to other Americans as "Cockroaches"

So it's only California we can't pick on, eh? 😛

this a rare example of a completely non-partisan issue IMO since both Republicans and Democrats supported this initiative together (as Corn pointed out), and both Republicans and Democrats in California are asking for wholesale price caps. It's really just a state vs. federal thing IMO.

<< don't go confusing the issues with the facts. >>

Red Dawn, thnks for the tip. That statement of yours would be a pretty good quote. BTW, wasn't the whole concept of Wilson even thinking to to run for president hilarious? What was that guy smoking?

<< ...I am a racist commie... >>

I'm glad you've finally accepted the truth Classy. :Q

I know you're not a commie bastage Red, heck you even remind me of my gramps: Like you, he was always happiest when he had somehting to b1tch about. 😛

Red -- << Raspewtin, don't go confusing the issues with the facts. >>

Thanks. I needed that! 😀

Hello from L.A. Politics is strange in Ca.

Our former insurance commissioner, Quackenbush, got caught taking payoffs from insurance companies. In exchange, they avoided paying legitimate claims by victims of the Northridge earthquake. He's living in Hawaii while the tax payers pay his legal expenses. 😱

Then, there's the Red Line, a subway system they built in quake-ish L.A. where there are sections where contractor used 50% of the specified thickness of concrete. That could only happen if some building inspector was motivated to look the other way. :Q

Did I mention a project called Belmont High, a hugely expensive, ultra-modern facility that is totally useless because it was built on a toxic site. :|

And you think we had a choice about this power supply business? 🙁

How many of you remember about 20 or so years ago when the city of New York was on the verge of bankrupcy? How did that play out? Did the federal government come to their rescue? Did the president take some direct action?

"We should have never deregualted the Power Companies"(in the 1st place)

Hey maybe Red is right, the only state in Australia that's having power problems is the one that's privatised its energy utilties, in the rest of Oz the power utilties are state owned & they have none of these problems.

Plus if they put prices up too much we just vote the polies out of office. Also the profits go into state coffers, meaning less income & sales tax is needed.

I'd feel fine about the Federal government bailing California's butt outta the fire, with a few conditions...

1. Power plant construction is to be put on an expedited approval schedule for zoning, and all other concerns. Groundbreaking for the first round of plants should begin by year end. If the locals argue, or they start with any "not in my backyard" crap, we start building electricity generating plants on whatever Federally owned land exists in the state - military installations, DOE property, wherever.

2. Market prices for power starts immediately. You want the wattage, you pay the cost. Tough sh!t if you don't like it, you've gotten your juice for under market costs for years now.

3. Your past foolishness will not cause the bankruptcy of CalEdison and PG&E. Until both companies are solvent again, and profitable, both companies will be totally relieved from any obligation of payment of state corporate income, or any other taxes that it would otherwise pay. Otherwise, the state gets to pay off the creditors. You broke it, you bought it.

Red Dawn - I'm glad you have the Socialist part right in your alias. Typical of most Communists, you have little idea how things really work.

First, Bush should not commit Federal help because this is a State problem. Plus, California voted strongly against the Republicans and the problem is making the once popular Governor look very, very bad.

The utilities should be completely deregulated and power costs allowed to rise to market. That will cause a boom of power plant building like you have never seen before as the NIMBY followers are tarred, feathered, and run out of town.

As for the idea of port taxes, there is a port fee already and federal customs taxes that a decent portion of which goes back to Califonia. Plus California get's the taxes on the salaries of the port wokers. The produce is already sold at what the market will bear, adding a special "Export" tax will just hurt California producers and help Mexico. That'll mean more Califonia farmers going under.

Tinneric - either loosen the pollution standards or make Californians pay the cost of the electricity that their standards are causing. If the environment is that important, pay for it.

Michael

ps - I live in California so I will bear the cost of the higher rates myself.

Only in California could you get a deregulation of the power companies but with the requirement that the increasing costs of power not be passed on to the consumer. That rates a big Duuhhhhh.

Then when they figure out that it won't work, they want the rest of the US to bail them out of their stupidity and we probaly will have too. It's kind of like helping out those poor in-laws that have been inbreeding for too many years with a little extra pocket change. They are embarassed about it and bluff and make a few threats even, but there they stand with their hand out stretched.

As long as you have that many liberals all gathered together that closely we will have to keep bailing them out. We might as well get used to it.
