What the hell is he suppose to do......for that matter what the helll do you think Gored would have done better? I still say Bush was the lesser of the two evils! I suppose next you'll try and blame the crisis on Bush to begin with............😉

No one is blaming Bush for this problem. The problem is, the energy crisis exists and he's not doing sh!t about it.

<< I suppose next you'll try and blame the crisis on Bush to begin with............ >>

They always need SOMEBODY (else) to blame it on.

Mark, I'll just repeat what I said in Red's thread on this subject:

<< Placing the blame on Mr. Wilson and rooting for recompense in the form of a career down the toilet smacks of unfairness. Mr. Wilson only signed into law a bill that was clearly mandated by the people (as evidence from it's unanimous passage through the state legislature) who elected him--isn't that how you commies believe things should be run, ya know "majority rules" and so forth regardless of it's "rightness"? He did what you asked for. Blame yourselves. >>

Red,

I'm not arguing FOR deregulation or against it.

I am arguing against PARTIAL deregulation.

For crying out loud, if you're going to do it, at least do it right!!!!!

BTW I have never accepted government assistance of any kind nor worked for a company that has, so I could give a rat's ass about all the crap.

Clinton said he wouldn't help Cali when he was still in office. The Federal goverenment, shouldn't step in when a state legislature screws up. California made their problem, now they will reep what they sow.

Mr State Government Dood in 1990: Nah we don't need any new powerplants, who cares about the population boom, we gotta get re-elected, gotta get that tree hugger support

Mr State Government Dood in 2001: Oh crap.... My office just went dark, WTH....

Bush is messed up, he wants to make accountability in education. Now that sounds nice and all, but I already take enough F!CKING tests, i dont need to take more damn government exams. Maybe if I had less tests, I could learn more...

Calif. said screw all the other states, build the power plants somewhere else.

Calif. said screw the energy companies, you can't raise the rates we pay even if your costs go up.

Bend over Calif. it's your turn.

Short sighted polices over the last 10 years in Calif. have caused this mess. Pres. Bush, as good as he is, won't be able to straighten it out in a day or two. But the idiots that caused the problem wll try and blame him for it. Sheeesh.

You know I look at posts by Cornball calling everybody commies, but what happened to Bush being a uniter. Who cares how the problem got started, but for Curly to take the stance that its a Calif. problem is bizarre. It is a problem for our nation. At least I thought Calif. was part of our country. If this was Ala., Miss, or Texas, a confederate flag flying, gun toting state, Bush would step up to the plate and address the situation not as lending aid but helping to solve the problem to help take care of the citizens of that state and of this country. But their attitude is the same as Cornball, anyone who is different in any way whether its by race, color, financial status, political thinking, ethical thinking, moral thinking, and now we see by state, their all commies and should be treated as such. What a joke!

Oh and before all you republican self-righteous lackeys start flaming me, I just want to say, ALL the Republicans can KISS MY BLACK posterior. Hope I spelled it right. 🙂

<<And you think you won't? Ahahaha.. go stick your head in the sand PeeWee, this is going to cost you as much as it costs us! If any State can deal with this it's California. We've dealt with water rationing numerous times and we have dealt with higher costs of living just fine. Will you guys be able to deal with it when it trickles down to your little townships in the form of higher costs for products and imports that you are so dependant on? We'll see. >>

California contains nearly 1/8 of the countries total population and absolutely effects the countries economy. I think though that you place a lot of emphasis on something that will be uneffected by the power crisis, agriculture. Oil prices have more effect on agriculture than this power crisis ever will. What this will do though is result in the loss of jobs from california, it will accelerate a trend that began 5 years ago. Many companies are moving jobs out of california for wage reasons (see gateways announcement), the power problems will just accelerate that loss to the betterment of midwestern and other western cities (vegas is likely to see a good bunch of jobs). California's problems have absolutely effected other states, gas prices are up as a result of your problems nationwide and power costs are expected to increase in most states because of the wholesale market increases.

<<God Damned Republicans go Whole Hog with Deregualations to the detriment of the American People. A great example of how that hurt American Citizens was when Ronald Reagan Deregulated the Savings and Loans. Only a few really benefitted from it (Neil Bush to name one)but many suffered tremendously.>>

Deregulation of the airlines and long distance market resulted in a reduction in prices of nearly 80% in both markets with more services for less costs than ever before. Do you remember the days when no airline ticket could be had for under $600 and when long distance cost 30+cents a minute? Free market economics are proven. The DOE has guidlines for the deregulation of power and one of them is a 25% surplus in power to ensure supply is adequate to keep prices down. California attempted deregulation with 8% excess reserves, in defiance of the federal recommendations.

<<Until recently we have been able to deal with it. But know it's taking it's toll on us and all we here from the ungrateful bastards is "It's your Problem,. deal with it". It's like you guys are French.>>

No I think most of us are a little pissed that our gas and power bills went up these past couple months (30% in my case) because your state fvcked up.

<<I must say, there is nothing that makes me so proud to be an American than when someone from another state says "Bend over Calif. it's your turn" >>

Nice of you to feel 'patriotic' after having just dissed the rest of the country yourself. Oooooooh, I forgot the world revolves around California!
What a Utopia, the promised land!

Classy, you have some serious issues. You are so prejudiced it's not even funny.

I think everyone realizes that California messed up bad. Partially due to a poor attempt at deregulation, partly to a false assumption(wholesale prices), and partly due to inactivity when the problem began late last summer. Certainly the current Californian government must bear the brunt of the blame and Bush isn't in anyway to blame for this crisis.

However, this crisis is one that shouldn't be ignored. Much of the US's high tech economy is based in California and prolonged disruption could seriously undermine the US economy.

Not only is it possible for many companies to experience loss of revenue and a decrease in production, but increased costs may make them less competitive both domestically and globally. Many companies may be forced to relocate(Intel has warned they might)current and future operations and some of them may relocate not in another state, but perhaps another country. For a country whose main economic advantage is the High-Tech industry, it is foolish to allow this crisis to continue.

What about Bush? Well, like I said earlier, this crisis isn't his fault, but he's the leader now and situations like this crisis are why leaders are elected. If, as some have suggested, he is letting the California governor hang in the wind in order to ruin the guys future political aspirations that is just f****d up. Add to this the alleged conditions of California needing to relax environmental laws and/or encouraging Mexico to take advantage of the situation, one should ask themself, "What the hell is he President for?". The guy just became President and it appears that already favours are being cashed in and he is underhandedly campaigning for the next election. This all depends on the truth of the allegations though.

This whole crisis once again makes the US's Achilles Heel blatantly apparent, energy. The US desperately needs to develop and use more alternative energy sources.

although i feel strongly about the deregulation, as i feel strongly on just about everything, i would like to make another point- it is my understanding, now i dont live anywhere near california, and haven't taken the time to research this, but aren't there environmental laws in california that only allow a certain number of nuclear plants, if any at all- it seems to me that that is just plain stupid- we have one here and it is very safe and there is a nice lake near it to go skiing it where the environment thrives, also, i understand that they built many windmills in northern cali. which are proven to be ineffective

Note: I never said that we should leave California to fix its own problems. I'm just arguing against all this bitching about Bush and how it's all his fault. I also dislike such arrogant displays of egotistical behavior. Not to mention people who are so paranoid they think everyone is out to get them.

Obviously, something needs to be done. What? I have no friggin idea. This could lead to serious consequences, however. People need their electricity for more than just watching TV. They need traffic lights and elevators. So if anything can be done by the feds that is fair to everyone, of course they should do it. I'm not ready to toss all the blame on Bush yet, because I'm not aware of any quick solution that he has available. But we shall see in the weeks to come.

<< You don't see people moving in mass to Alalbama or Oklahoma because those states don't have anything to offer them >>

Hmm... underlying theme? (power)

Red, no the US will not leave Calif. to stew in the man made disaster it has created for itself. The rest of the states will bail the Californians out and we might even let them go on thinking how bright and intelligent and far sighted they are. Of course we might snicker at them now and then also, they deserve it.

Those comments by Boxer about power bills over $50 being intolerable almost made me sick. I do hope the Californians end up paying realistic power costs at the end of this fiasco.

<<<<Classy, you have some serious issues. You are so prejudiced it's not even funny.>>>>

Yea I do have some issues. Only with the Republican party lying. I refuse to go with the flow, kiss their a$$, believe their lies, and I will speak my piece, if this makes me prejudice I guess I am. A spade is a spade. I rather tell it like it is instead of telling lies and worse even believeing lies. These holier than thou people just want to make me puke!!! :|

I will say this about one Republican member that I find I have respect for and thats John McCain. The man wants to do whats right and sometimes it may not be what you want. And I am sure he will want to do things that I wouldn't agree with, but you can tell his heart is sincere. But some of his party members will look the American people in the face and lie with a straight face. Most of those bastards ain't worth spit. At least the Democrats try to fix problems whether they are social or whatever, the damn Republicans will tell you there is no problem. Yea right.

USA is already producing the most pollution in the world, twice as much the country in second place makes. Increasing it is stupid :|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|

classy, i have now become thoroughly disgusted, you have made a sick generalization, which i do disagree with, and yet would scream in the face of anyone who made a generalization that you don't like, that is where the true hypocracy lies, suppose for instance, (this is not true AT ALL) that it think that all blacks are evil, mean-spirited people that are very racist, and the only one i have respect for is Thomas Sowell(i do have great respect for this man though), this would infuriate you be one belief- calling whoever said it of the devil or something similar, yet you are allowed with your own philosophy of intollerance to say what ever you please and assume its truth, no matter what hypocracy may lie in your statement
