I'm not trying to start a flame war but I'm not totally opposed to them as they are generally pretty entertaining.

I'm sure we've all weathered enough to not be bothered by this same battle scene played out for the 1093i8u543825^';32,r times.

Anyways, I am genuinely interested in your opinions on this.

What was the universe created out of?
 
They are pretty good, and like all things based in reality, are created by a combination of "ingredients."

I wish I had a few right now actually, I'm pretty hungry for a quality dog.

Science says you NEED A to create B.

A -> B

It is impossible to go from nothing to B.

So, the Universe being say... C, the elements that the Universe was created out of being B, than what was A?

? -> B -> C

There HAS to be an A.

I can't be the only one who thinks of stuff like this, I personally don't know how A came about. But it had to come about somehow.

It's pretty crazy to think about it. I guess there's no real answer either, something science will never be able to explain.

And this thread doesn't necessarily have much to do with God etc. other than the fact some believe he created the universe.

Something that can't be proven and thus is passed of as folklore.

The Big Bang is a theory, fine. But how did the big bang come about? Surely it wasn't created from nothing, because scientifically that's impossible.

So on and so forth.

You are assuming that nothing exists outside of the universe. That may or may not be true.

Last I knew the Universe was the end all be all of physical reality?

But you are right. I can't even fathom what might exist outside of the universe.

There is no way to prove that something can be created out of nothing.

Because there never was anything to ever be investigated in the first place right?

How can science prove that "nothing" was the creator of "something?"

We haven't seen most of our universe, never mind what might lie outside it. Our universe might be inside an atom of a blade of grass in a universe far larger than anything we can comprehend. Or not...I don't think you'll find many deeply religious people who would argue with that, no matter how you bait them. 😉

I just don't see what the big problem discussing this is.

I see people around here all the time bash religion saying it's an excuse and a poor attempt at trying to explain things which science could not have explained at the time yadda yadda yadda

Well, if science cannot explain, nor will it EVER be able to explain the origins of the universe, then how can people say that it was NOT created by God, and was in fact a product of the Big Bang, etc. when they can't even tell you where the prime elements of the big bang came from.

Hmmm interesting.

All types of people come out of the woodwork to attack religion with science, and defend the "reality" of things against "mythical Gods and folklore" but no ones seems to be around to defend science in this question...

Religion 1 (God created universe)

Science... -1? (We have completely contradicted ourselves claiming there is no God, and that something cannot be created from nothing. But we have no idea where the universe started or how, but we do know it wasn't created by God! Even though we have no idea, because we're science.)
 
Watch or read "The Elegant Universe".. it was a really good documentary about string theory and the creation of the universe. It was on PBS a while ago. You can buy the DVD/VHS of it though, it's really good. The video was based on the book by the same name.. I really liked it.

Yes I've seen some stuff on the string theory. Very, very interesting.
