This why the Bengals suck and usually will

whelp, the Skins just sent the Donovan to Minnesota.

they could use a pre-owned QB right about now. :\

Should have thrown in Albert for free.

But they had on the news last night that Beck went to the Redskins camp and the Guard did not know who he was. 😀

EDIT
Just saw the Redskins will only get a 6th round draft pick for McNabb. Hope McNabbs ego can handle that. The redskins wanted a 5th round pick and the vikings said no.

Go vikes! I like them getting McNabb. Hoping for good things!

wow, what an idiot.

I'd like to see Palmer in Washington.

🙁

And by Washington I assume you meant the state? I was hoping he would end up with my Seahawks, but evidently the 'Hawks signed one Tavaris Jackson.

I saw the news conference with the owner saying he won't give in to Palmer because he signed a contract. But owners release players in the middle of contracts all the time! Seems hypocritical to me.

This is a COMPLETELY different scenario. Seriously you know nothing about the bungles if you think those two stories have any comparison. One is about a young spoiled player who's agent knew the 49ers would fold. Palmers case is about principle. He feels the bengals failed to live up to the standards he expected when he signed the contract. One is a matter of greed, the other is a matter of principle. Palmer is just sick of the ownership and their incompetence like everyone else who follows the bengals. At some point they crossed a line and Palmer decided that was that. I would honestly retire as well if I was in his position. The bengals have jack shit around him. The team is a crapfest full of criminals who can't cut it on other teams. Why risk your health for that?

This makes me laugh. So we have those in the crowd who complain because players don't honor their contract. And then we have those in the crowd that suggest a spoiled player waited too long to agree to a contract? Really? Which is it? Is a player supposed to simply blindly sign whatever and not try to get the most he can from his contract, or bitch about it later?

To me, while I won't say Crabtree was in the right, he certainly is in a better position than Revis who was still under contract. Teams take chances on players, and players sign longer contracts to get more guaranteed money so that they at least have something should they fracture their spine and never play a down after their first game of the season. However, at some point, some contracts need to be dealt with prior to their expiration.

In Carson's case, the franchise is a joke. Brown would cut Carson had he been the problem, but since he isn't, he's stuck playing for a bottom feeder that keeps the same coaching staff and bringing in the same type of player year after year.

Brown could improve his team by simply rebuilding, and getting something in return for Carson. Since he won't... he's wasting an opportunity for more resources to rebuild with (draft picks), and wasting another man's career.

They should really come up with another term for "contract" when it comes to professional sports. They are unlike any contracts I ever learned of in law school or my career.

MotionMan

This. Guaranteed money is the only thing that makes sense in a contract. Otherwise, they're simply a commitment based on optimal circumstances. If Reggie Wayne had sustained an ACL injury last season, he'd be on a different contract this season. Since he played well, the Colts will let him finish out his last year. Had Reggie Bush set the world on fire with his play over his 4 seasons, he wouldn't be being released in the next couple days.

Its relevant if you're going to somehow argue that Carson is obligated to his contract but the owners are never, ever obligated to theirs. The Bengals can cut a person that isn't performing, and nobody bats an eye. Carson is doing the exact same thing, cutting his ties to a team that hasn't performed to his satisfaction. This is exactly the same thing

ding ding ding, we have a winner. (along with the losers in cincy)

4 years left on contract with Bengals..

I think there exists a provision in the CBA that a player can retire, and after a year come back. If this is the case, Palmer could come back to the NFL as a free agent. I am pretty sure I heard something along these lines on ESPN the other day.

Anyone know for sure if this is the case?

Interesting. I hope so, I wanna see Palmer go somewhere and have a chance

Where is KT at?? I was hoping they'd get Vince Young....

:awe:

With the next Super Bowl in Indy, I am curious if you are trying to get tix for it. I think it is next to impossible for a fan to buy SB tix, but they are always available through alternate means.

Personally, if the SB ever made its way to Seattle (yea right) I am not sure I would pursue tix. I go to a Seahawks game maybe once a season, but Football is one of the best sports to watch from the comfort of your home.

Not quite. Palmer can retire and un-retire at will, but until he fulfills his contract with the Bengals or the Bengals release him or trade him, they will own his NFL rights and he cannot sign with another team.

What ESPN is talking about is Palmer's leverage with the Bengals. This year he doesn't have much leverage. So far the owner is calling his bluff on retiring and so long as the team keeps ~$11 million in salary cap room (to account for Palmer's contract if/when he reports) Palmer can't force them to do anything. However, if he sits out this year and reports in 2012 the team will be in much more dire straits. Presumably, they won't want Palmer around after sitting out a year; they should have a new starter to whom they're paying starter money. If Palmer sits out 2011 and reports in 2012 the Bengals will either have to pay him starter money to sit on the bench, which they won't do, or cut/trade him. Also, it's likely that if he "retires" the Bengals will spend his ~$11 million cap number, so if he reports in 2012 he would push the team over the salary cap and they'd have to cut other players or cut him to get below the cap.

Awesome clarification, thank you.

edit: maybe it is the homer in me, but Hasselbeck would have made a great mentor for Dalton. I know that kind of contract was not in the cards, just sayin....

I was approached a year or two ago by my boss (at the time) about working the Super Bowl. I haven't heard anything since so I assume that it won't happen. When approached, I said I'd mop the floors of Lucas Oil if it meant that I got to go to the Super Bowl for free.
