This whole R600/G80 benchmarks thing is nonsense.

there is a DX10 path planned for a patch, but it is not out; SupCom was actually going to be the first, however last i heard they were both waiting for a DX10 update from MS before they could release the patch. that was about a month ago, and i haven't heard anything since...

as to STALKER .. they tested with 8xAA ... at a higher resolution than mine
... which *will* bring my rig to a "slideshow" standstill ... and yet adds ZERO to the visuals

well, since they didn't state any game specific settings, who's to say they even turned dynamic lighting off? and 1440x900 is within a few % of 1280x1024; the difference is inconsequential...

wtF is up with you?

regarding what?

that's ALL "in game" settings completely to the Right ... *except* AA which is useless
[there is a 'placebo' effect with the blurriness]

8xAA?

regarding being one of the VERY few that *insists* - and you have consistently insisted - that your rig runs Vista perfectly and that you have no problems with your games and drivers ...

should i call you a liar ?

... because you *don't* have problems with your rig?

Very 'obviously' StALKER is "optimized" for SOME rigs ... i am just one off the very luck ones that gets to run it *smoothly* - above 30 FPS with everything maxed ....

and it's pretty stupid to think they benched STALKER with 8xAA/16xAF and *somehow forgot* to turn FDL on

8xAA will turn my "smooth" to "slideshow" in stalker
... with ZERO benefit

EDIT: it was *supposed* to be out BUT ... checked on CoH ... patch 1.61 is out ... the DX10 patch is next ... 1.7

if you want to compare DX10 and DX9 ... here you go:

For those who still like to cling to convenient conspiracy theories that nvidia will slow down product introductions / innovation without effective competition I offer this excerpt from nvidia's latest earnings conference call. Will post a link to transcript when one pops up on Seeking Alpha. In the meantime, this is Uttar's rough transcription.

Q: Discrete new desktop GPUs. ATIs had numerous delays. Design cycle increase?
A: (Jen Hsun Huang) The GPU is one of the most complex devices built anywhere in the world. It is probably the most complex device.
Hundreds of people work on it for many years. It's hundreds of millions of dollars. You also have to be world-class.
We're really really proud of our execution. It's a system the industry recognizes as being absolutely superior.
We have absolutely no intention of slowing down the rate of innovation. We won't increase the cycle times.

Comeon GStanfor, did you really expect him to say anything else? You think he would have said "Of course we're gonna slow down. That way we can make lots more profit by reusing old tech." ?? I'm not saying they will since I really don't have the answer to that but what you're doing is like using a word to define that same word.

I'm pretty sure you would disregard any info put out by ATI themselves as marketing speak...you can't do the same to NVidia?

Fine, don't trust me then. Next thing, you'll be saying Wall Street and the financial markets in general are full of crap too?

:p

the other "real" sources - like the WSJ -can be *trusted* to not SPIN the facts ;)

-- nor do they have an agenda of hatred against a particular company that *distorts* their info - like you do

I didn't spin *anything* The quote that thilan is taking issue with above is reproduced verbatim form the F1Q08 earnings conference call, and Huang, is clearly refuting any suggestion that nvidia will be slackening off anytime soon.
