On the topic of driver performance as far as I heard, ati went with stability first, performance later.

Well guess what? From the looks of it the G80 Ultra sucks. It's a big flop on NV's part because they're at the top of the market with all the leg room and they throw out a pair of midget legs. Instead of getting so bent out of shape over a card that has yet to be seen in a full review why not harp on NV for wasting time on an overpriced/underperforming card that next to no one will buy? I mean, if all NV has to do to beat out the R600 is a driver release, why bother throwing out an Ultra G80?

Of course, some might say this is a troubling sign and retailers are desperate to unload a crappy product as soon as they possibly can.

Sadly with no competition, I am fearing that nVidia won't be raising the bar anymore. Geforce 9 - Slight upgrade to geforce 8? That would be bad.
If the Geforce 8800 Ultra is a hint of stuff to come, I will be disappointed.![]()

I'll have to give you this, you've got QUITE an imagination.
Wait a minute here... Aren't you the same guy who was always complaining about the "sewerpipe FUD" that supposedly spewed non-stop from the ATI PR dept? See where I'm going with this?

Why would nvidia do something so stupid. nvidia likes making money above all else. The best way of making money is to offer consumers what they want.

let's *hope* the $450 HD-XT beats or at least 'equals' the $850 'ultra' in DX10 benchs...
--that'll *shock and awe* the early-ultra buyers
:Q
just a week ... not long![]()
maybe the $850 ultra isn't such a good idea ... for this yearBilgiUstam got some results for 3DMark06 and for the first time from another application: a Crysis demo. They compared the Radeon HD2900XT to a GeForce 8800GTX on the same test platform.
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800
Asus P5W DH
2×1GB PC2-6400 (5-5-5-12)
Western Digital Raptor 150
To sum it up: While the G80 card was faster in the theoretical benchmark 3DMark06, the R600XT outperformed the G80 card everytime by a slight margin in the Crysis tests.

Or charge exorbitant prices for high-end products in the absence of competition.

Then profits would go down along with the share price, so its not in the company's interest to do that.

Jen Hsun Huang (nvidia's CEO) stated in an interview for "The Mercury News" the following just after nv30 launched:
" Tiger Woods doesn't win every day. We don't deny that ATI has a wonderful product and it took the performance lead from us. But if they think they're going to hold onto it, they're smoking something hallucinogenic. "

how do you *know* what is or is not in the nvidia's "interest"?
you have proved your self 100% clueless in THIS discussion
and it *appears* that nvidia is gonna be 'caught' by HD-XT in DX10 benches ...
perhaps surpassed
http://www.overclock3d.net/news.php?typ...id=836&desc=radeon_hd2900xt_benchmarks
kinda crappy for a double-overpriced video card
that would NOT be in nvidia's best interest
