Some good news for those determined to purchase R600 no matter what:

Amazing.. the XT prices drop even before the card is out in retail yet..
?357 in holland.. (sapphire)

http://www.icomputers.nl//articledetail.aspx?A_ID=10878

?369 for the HIS
http://www.sallandautomatisering.nl/....php?pid=34368

On the topic of driver performance as far as I heard, ati went with stability first, performance later.

That's it? 11 pages of trying to learn about the G80 Ultra vs. HD2900XT and all it's been about so far is one guy's problem with a company and how he doesn't think the R600 will be that good?

Well guess what? From the looks of it the G80 Ultra sucks. It's a big flop on NV's part because they're at the top of the market with all the leg room and they throw out a pair of midget legs. Instead of getting so bent out of shape over a card that has yet to be seen in a full review why not harp on NV for wasting time on an overpriced/underperforming card that next to no one will buy? I mean, if all NV has to do to beat out the R600 is a driver release, why bother throwing out an Ultra G80?

Sadly with no competition, I am fearing that nVidia won't be raising the bar anymore. Geforce 9 - Slight upgrade to geforce 8? That would be bad.

If the Geforce 8800 Ultra is a hint of stuff to come, I will be disappointed. :(

Well, most sites here in Australia are starting to list the Ultra now (availability closer to the end of the month, we always get new tech later here). The average price for one is $1299.

Up until very recently most GTX's sold from between $950 - $1075, only the cheaper brands such as Innovision appear to have dropped GTX prices to any degree so far, and they tend to get the poorest performing chips from a particular bin anyhow.

I've got my eye on an XFX ultra for $1399 that features 675/2300 mhz clock speeds. With any luck, gainward should bring out something comparable. Two of those should keep me well entertained for quite some time to come.

$1,399AU is roughly $1,077.07US. Unless you are a wheat exporter or mining company our currency sucks.

Price drops, stability first, performance second, I hate where this is going...

Trust me, in a heartbeat, the mods would boot you before they boot BFG10K.

I guess all we can hope for at this point, is for Intel to start churning out respectable GPU's. Which actually seems more likely than AMD/ATI continuing to bring them.

I'll have to give you this, you've got QUITE an imagination.

Wait a minute here... Aren't you the same guy who was always complaining about the "sewerpipe FUD" that supposedly spewed non-stop from the ATI PR dept? See where I'm going with this?

So, I take it you think that AA using samples from multiple pixels and a blur filter of some description is acceptable?

That I'm imagining the artifact on the HL2 picture?

That retailers are delighted to have to deal with risky stock, epecially when they could fill their shelves/inventory with proven popular sellers?

let's *hope* the $450 HD-XT beats or at least 'equals' the $850 'ultra' in DX10 benchs...

Why would nvidia do something so stupid. nvidia likes making money above all else. The best way of making money is to offer consumers what they want.

Or charge exorbitant prices for high-end products in the absence of competition.

ok you asked me ... this one is 'safe' to show:

http://www.overclock3d.net/news.php?typ...id=836&desc=radeon_hd2900xt_benchmarks

BilgiUstam got some results for 3DMark06 and for the first time from another application: a Crysis demo. They compared the Radeon HD2900XT to a GeForce 8800GTX on the same test platform.

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800
Asus P5W DH
2×1GB PC2-6400 (5-5-5-12)
Western Digital Raptor 150

To sum it up: While the G80 card was faster in the theoretical benchmark 3DMark06, the R600XT outperformed the G80 card everytime by a slight margin in the Crysis tests.
maybe the $850 ultra isn't such a good idea ... for this year :p

Then profits would go down along with the share price, so its not in the company's interest to do that.

how do you *know* what is or is not in the nvidia's "interest"?

you have proved your self 100% clueless in THIS discussion

and it *appears* that nvidia is gonna be 'caught' by HD-XT in DX10 benches ...
perhaps surpassed
http://www.overclock3d.net/news.php?typ...id=836&desc=radeon_hd2900xt_benchmarks

kinda crappy for a double-overpriced video card

that would NOT be in nvidia's best interest

heh.. and your point is? that in 99% of the games the XTX is decidedly slower than the (what is likely a reference GTX @575Mhz) GTX, but in 1 game it's slightly faster with aa/af? so if those are real, the ultra will likely be slightly faster in the 1 game..

tho i'll be the first to admit $800+ for an 8800 ultra certainly looks A LOT more ridiculous than i first thought...

edit: on another note, if those are correct, Crysis will allow AA/AF? that would be a nice change from what we've been getting lately.

When I made that statement asking who's paying you, I was joking at first. Now you are seriously digging yourself a hole IMO. Either you are the world's biggest fanboy, or your living out of someone's pocket book... My best guess is the latter of the two... It may not be AEG or any other publically known viral marketing companies, but you certainly seem to be "on a mission" to convince the world that AMD/ATI is the worst company to operate on planet earth and its your duty to start a boycott against them. If you are viral, I'd recommend coming clean now or you will probably end up banned like the rest of those 'tards.

apoppin, I need to publically apologize for calling you out a week ago. Your posts have contributed an infinite amount MORE than Gstandfor's and have been the only thing semi-keeping this thread on topic. Thanks bud, and sorry for the name calling.
