This thread is about people getting breaks b/c of their "name"

No politics please. I just think that a certain Kennedy who has less experience than say a certain Palin is likely going to be New York's next Senator. And why? Because of something called Camelot. 😕

Anyone else here get breaks in life that they wouldn't otherwise b/c of their name?

If you are too scared to venture into P&N to post this, then OT does not deserve it either.

And there is a thread on her in P&N if you wish to participate

Wow, we hit P&N territory by the second sentence of the OP. Nice!

Not only that, but there is a P&N thread on the exact same topic.

I'm still on topic. She's getting a break b/c of her name. It happens to be about becoming a Senator. I asked other people to share how a name got them a break for something.

Hard to understand, huh? 😛

Is it full of malicious comments?

this is what i'm talking about.

i've got out of a speeding ticket due to my profession, not my name though.

Palin's a dumbshit that doesn't deserve a seat in anything.

/leaves this obviously P&N thread 😛

It's too hard to reason with a deranged liberal, let's let this one remain delusional with some semblance of peace of mind. 😉

I've gotten a job because of my last name. My father helped start the Ronald McDonald House and other charities. When I've gone to leave the job, ppl are more than willing to give me recommendations long after they've left the state and don't deal with my family anymore...When I interviewed for my current job, it was out of state and my interviewers had never heard of my last name but were still really excited about me joining them.

So it initially helped me get my foot in the door for future professions, but now that I'm no longer in the area I grew up in, I've begun to kick ass of my own. Especially now that my father and I don't really get along all that well. I tend to leave it out and not talk about my dad unless ppl specifically ask about him.

Edit: Oh and if Kennedy becomes my next Senator, I'm gonna drive my car off a bridge with a girl in the back seat...if I'm lucky, it might be her.

Got it from Religulous, that quote and the look on his face when he knew he got caught on camera saying it was gold 🙂

ffs.

i don't want it to be a politics. i sited one incident where the last name is going to get someone somewhere. i asked for other personal experiences and not to continue discussion about the original example.

Well, it isn't too bad. I haven't read the thread, but a quick scan looked like it was more civil than most long P&N threads but still there were malicious comments.

I'd like to counter your comments by saying that most if not all politicians have no skill in the matter. And experience actually means nothing in politics. Show me one skilled politician with experience that only makes good votes based solely upon his/her experience. I'll wait.

Thus, Kennedy is just as good as anyone else (so would any random person be perfectly suited for politics).

What really matters is the connections that you have and the ability to clearly consider the advice of those around you. In that aspect, a name can help get you the proper connections and advice.

Note: I know absolutely nothing about the Kennedy that you mention.

That Bush was elected twice in recent memory basically proves a name can get you anything in this country.

Does sharing a last name with a full professor and head of the undergraduate admissions committee of my alma mater count?
