Very strange.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, it does sound like the relationship between the two wasn't that great to begin with...

The relationship was ok, but a little strained at the end due to money issues.....

it still sucks to end things like that.....with such finality and no peace.

The mother clearly had underlying medical issues , I'd comfort your friend with the idea that her mother sounds like she was not herself mentally when she made that call.

More and more research is finding that mental attitude (positive vs negative) has a profound effect upon health. Perhaps her attitude partially led to her death.

My sympathy to your friend.

I think its depression. If it had something to do with the heart then it was probably from being so heart broken. SERIOUSLY!!! Ive been very depressed sometimes that when crying I felt like a sharp pain in my heart and got a little scared.

Oh man that sucks :(

When I was a teenager my aunt told me to come help my grandfather because he had a drinking habit shortly after his wife died. My aunt (we didn't get along at the time) told me that he would die shortly if I didn't help him (he thought no one cared about him), so I told her so be it (I felt he was partially responsible for my grandmothers death). Sure enough he drank himself to death and then my aunt committed suicide.

Stuff like that can mess you up :(

Yeah it sucks. I realize now, 4 years later, that it wasn't really my fault. I do regret not trying to help them, but hindsight is always 20/20. At the time I was angry because my grandmother died of malnutrition cause cancer treatment left her not hungry in her later years and we felt my grandfather should have "fed" her. She was like a concentration camp member towards the end :(

A lot of asian culture here in Hawaii too....people are
very superstitious and spiritual.

Sorry to hear about that :(
and I need to keep a close eye on my friend, it must
be seriously screwing her up.
