This place used to be quite different, no?

This forum has always leaned more towards the left, and nothing wrong with that. But I seem to remember that there used to be a much more robust presence of right leaning people. I am not talking just the usual right wingers - who are just as tiring to listen to as their left wing counterparts, both parroting the party lines ad nauseam.

If I remember correctly, there used to be some libertarian types here. And/or other people with more varied, and nuanced views. But now frankly, to use a crude term, it seems like a liberal circle jerk. Or is my memory playing tricks with me?

I think you'll find that as with any political cycle the media/voices/opposition party is much louder when they are out of power. Obama was in office for 8 years. The righties were much more active and critical during that time frame.

Many of the normal people that leaned right are very much anti-trump so now they seem like they are on the left, same with many of the moderates. Others just don't post much any more.

Since most people on here are educated and educated people broke hard away from Trump, I think we are matching what polls are showing.

Maybe the right can only be wrong so often before they wise up and go left? :p

As for me, i call myself a left leaning libertarian in more aspects of politics. Lets me rip on both the right (more often) and left (sometimes) for their idiotic thinking :)

No you are incorrect, and not very convincing in your concern.

If your talking about Trump which is what the majority of topics here are about these days then there are no nuanced views. The man is a disaster and the majority of people on here see it that way except for the blind. Are you blind?

Ok what did my post had to do with the vile creature? Is that all there is to this country? And I know we can get into the bubble thinking, but most of the crap and sleaze and stuff that dominates news these days has little to do with the lives of an overwhelmingly majority of Americans

Interesting take. Another offshoot of the "both sides" trope? I find it akin to trying to find a nuanced/varied view in a debate with someone who believes the world is flat?

Really? And you didn’t even specify which debate. Or do you mean to say that the left has all the answers and anyone who disagrees is akin to a flat earth believer?

This is a very astute observation.

Have you ever noticed that when a new party takes power the parties switch sides on issues such as NSA surveillance and snooping on US citizens' communications? Or bombing of foreign countries? It's almost as if the side with power becomes suddenly OK with it because they trust their "team" to do the right thing with it.

I think that we've become so radicalized in our political sports teams that we reject any legitimate oversight. When one party controls all major branches all attempt of oversight is thrown out the window. I think our system is being tested right now and we need to figure out some sort of way to inoculate it for the future.
