It seems to me the Repub leadership not only farted, they also crapped themselves down their pant legs and are blaming Obama for the mess they're trailing behind them. However if we don't raise the debt ceiling we'll default, at which point we will no longer be worried about money since ours will be worth nothing. Ya ya, call it liberal crazy overreaction if you want but if the market is flooded with US Treasury bonds, and we have to raise our interest rates sky high, or print even more money than 85 billion a month, anyways look at what happened to Greece when their treasury bonds got sold off like hotcakes because they were no longer deemed reliable, except they had the EU to rely on, we don't have a larger entity we are tied to that keeps the value of our money. Even with the rest of the EU the Euro saw inflation and Greece currently is 27% unemployment.

Anyways, it'll be a damn small government if that happens so all these tea party crazies will be happy.

While I agree we need to cut spending and raise taxes to survive long term not raising the debt ceiling now is not an option. As for people who think our economy shouldn't be tied to the Fed, the Fed prints the money, the Fed is what makes the money have value. This is how all western governments work.

The debt ceiling has always been such a trivial procedure that the minority party has always had protest votes, republican and democrats. The fact that you fail to see this and you fail to understand this is a testament to your partisan hackery.

Oh and by the way Obama agrees we have a spending problem, it's why he caves on anything that lowers the budget responsibly (such as agreeing to a $200 billion decrease in his proposed budget). It's why every time he talks about reducing government debt he doesn't just say we should only raise taxes but we should also make responsible cuts.
