But there’s many instances where employees can be held liable when intervening. Unless I’m the direct store owner, I wouldn’t be going outta my way to help a business, even if I’m employed. It would have to be specified in my employment agreement that you want me to physically stop people from stealing.

They already do that anyway. So nothing would change, except we'd now be allowed to fight back.

Just off the top of my head here's a few recent ones locally:

Elderly woman stabbed in eye.

22 year old stabbed in lower back at an ATM for $20.

Just today, a 25 year old stabbed in hand at grocery store.

That's on top of the 12 or so break ins into local businesses down town that happened last week alone. At least one of those businesses decided to just shut their doors permanently because they're fed up of this and they are losing money from all the damage constantly being caused.

This shit needs to stop. Give people the right to defend their property and themselves. Some are already starting to carry bear mace at the risk of getting in trouble, but better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Also need to actually put these thieves in jail. We already pay taxes, use that money to pay for it instead of wasting it on dumb shit like a gun buy back program that did not get a single gun but yet cost tax payers millions of dollars.

Guys the example given was not a small business in fact it’s a very large very profitable business. They know the shrink rate and they fund it acceptable.
A small business would NEVER have that many live devices at risk.
This is all that needs to be said.
Theft is wrong we all know that.

Literally nobody is saying thieves should not get punished. These people just like to argue because they have a)bloodlust and b)have right wing brain rot that convinces them the biggest problem are the super small-time crooks, no the right wing politicians and business leaders robbing them blind of everything they can
