80s had all sorts of awesome music. I think the 70s had better television show themes, but the 80s still wins when it comes to cartoon/anime themes.

Where did I pine for the 80s? Does art suddenly disappear or become irrelevant beyond its time of creation? Even putting the internet aside, there's stuff like Boomerang and MeTV that focuses entirely on retro entertainment. Of course, there's nothing wrong with using the internet either. If a person happens to enjoy X from decade Y, why wouldn't he use what modern technology allows us in discovering more of that period? Do you think that anyone listening to Bach is pining for the 18th century?

I grew up in the 70's and 80's, I am smart. I rarely need google for OT posts, because I have lived most of it.

Theres nothing wrong with listening to and enjoying pop culture from decades that arent your own but you will always miss the context. Its a dead thing, preserved and sterile. Its far better to immerse yourself in something vibrant and living when youre young, something that you can be a part of, something that you can influence and grow with.
 
Yeah, you generally prefer to pull the "I knew a guy that did X once and had a 5 minute conversation with him, therefore I'm an expert" card.
